RK..follow your gut instinct and don't waste time making excuses for other peoples ignorance. If you perceive the goings on as unsafe and no ones listening to reason..bail. Screw 'em. Never dangle yourself in harms way intentionally.
Rarely does one find "organizers" who are truly interested in the groups safety. Usually its a power trip ego deal. If you are lucky and your "organizers" are good people you could be on to a enjoyable experience that will only get better.
Have fun and I know you will take lots of pictures

Absolutely!! I find that the ONLY time I have a bad time is when I DON'T follow my instincts... I skipped one ride to show them I wasn't married to this group. I wrote some emails and when I didn't see the results I wanted I didn't go.
Then a few days later the next ride had safety reviews and procedures and the organizers started a thread on "Motorcycle (Group) Ride Rules/ Etiquette!!". I chimed in and was openly supported by all.
I gave the safety review talk on this last ride - and during the ride made my observations known to those that needed some advise - they picked up their game and we all rode well.
I'll do my thing - do my best to make sure I have a safe and enjoyable ride - share my experience with those that need it. It is safer in numbers out here.
