RK, When you first start out training you take it slow...and hydrate hydrate hydrate. I'm sorry you dropped your bike...been there done that a few times. It sounds like a simple matter of you over doing it,got degydrated and didn't get fully hydrated before you went out and about. Bike okay?

Thanks BI,
you are 100% right - start slow and keep hydrated - I know these things (just trying to jumpstart the process - it bit me in the ass...)

Yes!! the bike and me are both ok. The bike got a very small scratch on the motor guard and another on the bag guard... those suckers work!! The back tire now has no chicken strip on the right side -LOL!!

As for the diet and exercise routine- I used to (20 + years ago) race bicycles pro/am. I've been doing this bit for over 3 decades = I know better!!

I was just getting used to the cooler weather - this heat wave as nice as it is and appreciated - just threw me off.

Thanks for the concern. I hope everyone has a very safe year this year - seems like its going to be one of those years though. I am now 100% behind your reasoning for waiting till next year for your epic trip BI. Seem like it's been something every day so far - starting with getting home on new years eve and breaking a favorite dish while washing it at 3am... breaking parts on my bicycle that I've had for over 20 years... loosing shit on rides... I can't wait till this is all behind us and I can only hope we all live through it.
Stay well my friend - keep your lucky charm handy - looks like we are going to need it.
:icon_bang:

As for the s/c idea - I guess a tricycle is the new idea - after all, I started out on one all those years ago... makes sense I'll finish on one of them... then comes diapers I guess. :icon_eek:

I must have gotten a chill in my right knee - I'm having a hard time putting weight on it- good thing I still have the flu and I'm not riding yet. The sun is out, I'm going to put a chair on the patio and soak up some heat like the lizard I am.

Congrats on the new Trike. I think your way of handling the challenge of staying in the wind is right on! :icon_thumbsup:

One of my riding companions, a 56 year old long time rider, purchased a HD trike last year and loves the change. No more worries about dropping the bike and easier to handle at stop lights/signs, but he did say it took a little getting used to compared to riding a 2 wheeler. For me, I currently have no desire to move into a trike, but who knows, maybe someday.

On a trip to West Virginia, I made the mistake of parking my Street Glide on a side hill lie in a convenience store parking lot. Thought I was being smart by parking so I could pull straight out. When it came time to leave, I couldn't raise the bike to center no matter how hard I pushed with my left leg. Had to ask a guy coming out of the convenience store to give me hand. I am probably lucky the bike didn't go down when I set the kickstand.

I rode behind a trike this past weekend on some really technical twisties and I got to tell you it looked rock solid the whole time. Granted he wasn't breaking any track records at the speed he was cruising. I also saw the other type of trike - with the two wheels up front and one drive wheel out back. They seem much more sport oriented - and more stable at higher G-forces.

I found my ride!!

The time will come - and when it does this is what I'm going to be scooting around on.

I saw it at the Long Beach Motorcycle Show - I really wanted to sit on it.

I totaled my bike January 2012. Shattered my right leg with three breaks and a bunch of splinters. I did not mend and had to have a bone graft. But ever since I realize just how weak I am now. But no way am I giving up riding. For me it will be a trike. In fact I got a Can-Am Spyder for just those days I didn't feel like holding the EGU up. That was the plan. The wife stole the thing and rides it all the time now. So I've been looking into converting my 07 EGU to trike. Expensive proposition if it's done right. I know I want independent suspension and everything painted to match. There where the big buck come in. But being in a hospital and off my feet for so long showed me I MUST ride. In fact if I croak while riding that would be perfect. Doing what I like. Interesting thing about riding. It's the only time I'm not in pain. For what ever reason! I'll take it. But I have noticed recently that after an hour I do start hurting. So I guess age is starting to take effect. Soon to be 66 and really hope I make it to 70 and still twisting the throttle.

My legs are getting weak, rode sports bikes for years had a couple of accidents and spent the time healing just dreaming of getting on another bike.now the damage that I did to myself is beginning to show so swapped sports for Harley.its the best thing that I ever did the Harley is heavier but lower so I can get my feet down quicker when I screw up.its harder when I have to push it around but hey take more time and rest awhile.I will never give up riding when I struggle to get aboard my son will help me and I can ride off with a big smile on my face.nothing beats riding a Harley and meeting brothers like you, and when I have to give up I will just sit on it in the garage and dream. I guess its a way of life.2
