Came across this video - seems CA is the ONLY state that allows this - maybe if the word gets out far enough some of the simpleton Politicians might understand and get behind it and make it legal in all states.

Excellent video. I've always land split regardless of the state. MY HD is air cooled and ain't getting no air percolating in the 90 degree heat. Especially up in Maine on that ever popular rt 1.


To expect to be perfect is unreasonable, to strive for perfection is reasonable.

Great video. I've never done lane splitting. I have been tempted to at red light. I have heard some people inTexas complaining about cages cutting them off when they tried to lane split

Even though it is legal here I have been cut off - I have had SUV drivers pinch the lane when they see me coming on the freeways. If they cause me any grief they usually get a broken mirror as i pass - that's why I love my new gloves with the molded knuckle guards - nice touch. As the video explains - 30% less fatalities in CA then in TX and FL - because we're not caught in between two cars in a rear end collision. My bike is wider than a sport bike and sometimes I just don't fit but I will always try to get to the front or get out of the lane so cars can't get me. No matter where you are the cages are going to be jealous because we're getting past them. Bottom line a ticket is easier to deal with and cheaper than hospital bills.

I used to lane split and ride the shoulder all the time as a younger man in kansas.
I never seen it as a safe thing to do, just a quicker way to get around. the bikes I rode back then where small, quiet and quick.
I've not tried it since I moved to Illinois and got a harley. My bike is pretty loud I'm afraid I would scare some old lady and she would have a heart attack.
If I ever get duals put back on my bike and they make splitting legal here I would do it if I was in a hurry. I'm rarely in a hurry these days though.
Good video the guys in it spoke about the danger of being rear ended. I keep a pretty sharp eye on my mirrors when I'm stopped and I always leave myself
a way out. Drivers aer pretty distracted these days, someone rear ended my new truck at a stop light, it had less than 500 miles on it.
The person that hit it said he didn't see it. It was sunny and clear, the truck was a black f150, pretty hard to miss.

You can also ride the carpool lane in CA too.
