I have a friend that has great prices on tires, last front dunlop I bought was 125 with Harley on it. I mount and balance my own with dyna beads, tube tires on chrome rims I have a friend do it

I have never used the dyna beads, but I may start. I have never tore down a chrome spoke rim with tube. I want to start changing my own tires and I have chrome-spoke. Why do you get your buddy to change the chrome tube tires?

I used to change my own spoked tube tires but I leave some marks with the tire irons, with my new chrome wheels I figure i don't want to scratch the chrome. When I have my friend's shop mount them I go with them doing the balanceing because they use the correct wheel wieght instead of the stickons they use on cast wheels. I find they fall off sometimes, also I don't think the beads would work on a tube tire, Don't think they would go in easily. Deerslayer

I don't like paying the high cost from the dealer to change tires. There is a product called Ride-On that is supposed to also balance the tire and I think it works with tubes. It also stops leaks when punctured. I suppose if I pull them and just have the dealer mount and balance it would save a few bucks.

I learned the hard way, get someone that knows what they are doing.
This last set of tires I took the wheels down to a new guy that did it for half price of my usually guy.
2 weeks later the back wheel went flat... pinched tube AND the wheel weight fell off.
I took it back to my usual guy and had to buy a new tube on top of the mount and balance... didn't save any money that time. The tire holds air - the weights are still on - worth the money.
I pull the wheels off at my house and then take them to the wheel shop for a mount and balance - he's expensive but always does it right and never a scratch.
I was warned about that fix a flat stuff a long time ago and I stay away from it.

RK, Your right about the fix a flat, most here in PHx charge $20 each if you bring the rim and tire in with you. The Wheel Shop In PHX charges $60 each if they have to pull it off your bike. A not so smart buddy of mine took his to the HD dealer, they charged him $110 an hour at 1.5 hours = $165 in just for labor on a back tire, thats crazy. Had a smarter buddy show me how to slip or spin the tire by doing a quick burn out to off set the hole in the tire from the hole in the tube, pumped it back up and nursed it to the shop to get changed

I have the shop manual and I follow it to the letter every time.
While I have the wheels off I clean the inner fenders and inspect the brakes and undercarriage.

I pay 30 per wheel for mount and balance - they charge 5 bucks for old tires here. I guess I could bring them home and dump them in our recycle bin - maybe next time.

This change out - i also did all my fluids while I had it on the stands.
