I figured I would start a thread to show my progress through the mod's I am doing to my bike. I have been planning the last few weeks. Last Night i ordered the following:

* Drag Specialities 18" Big Buffalo Apes (and everything to unstall it)
* Set of mirrors with blinkers
* Paughco 40" Slash cut drag pipes (1 3/4 inch)
* Khrome Werks Lowboy Sissy bar
* Luggage rack

As i get the stuff gets in I will install with before and after pics. Looks like the pipes will get here first. I don't expect to see the apes until february.

Is it weird that I'm so psyched to see your mods???

sorry there's so many miles in between us... I'd come over - crack open a cold one, roll up my sleeves and watch you work... Hey- watching is hard work!! :icon_You_Rock:

Take your time and enjoy the process, I hope the finished product is everything and more than you expect!!

Take lots of pics - you know how much we all love seeing the pics.

Update:

I got the drag pipes on the bike. They are loud. I plan to get some baffles, but I am not sure which ones. I like the look of the pipes and the gig line seem to be just as in the advertizement. I lowered the idle a little bit. When it is warm it was idling hgher than normal.

The backrest is a hit. My wife said it hits her higher on her back than the original one. It is also easier to bungie stuff to the backrest. I need to get a medallion for the back of it.

I got the luggage rack in the mail, but I am going to have to possibly relocate the blinkers to install it. So I am not sure what route I am going to take with it yet.

I also got some crashbar mounted highway pegs. I installed them, but I am not sure if they will be keepers. They are high quality with swivel adjustments. A friend of mine ask me about the need for them when i have forward controls. I had not really thought about it. On long trips the major thing I needed was the ability to move my feet/leg postion for comfort. Do any of you have both forward controls and highway pegs?

The ape hangers should be in Monday. I originally ordered Hill Country Custom (True 1 1/4) 16" apes. Then I saw the 18" buffalo bars installed on a FXDWG and initiated a change with HCC to them, but the person that could make the change wasn't in the office so I had to wait. I reconsidered the change and decided to stay with the 16" HCC apes. The buffalo bars are heavy and could possibly be too tall. If they arrive early enough Monday I might get them installed.

attached is a pic of the new pipes.

Looking good and sounding even better. Those are the same pipes I had on my '83 for a long time. You know way back before the noise police cared. The sound sweet and at nite you should be able to see flames shoot out of them. If its carb any to do about the rejetting with the new pipe-ege?

You're gonna love the look, sound and feel of your new bike maker!

I will have to tune it to the new pipes. I haven't yet and before I spend the time doing it i want to get the baffles installed. I considered going without the baffles, but I know there are some towns that will shut you down with straight pipes. I am safe in my area (I think) and I take it real easy leaving the hood. Paughco sells baffles for the pipes and I have read a little about Big City Thunder Baffles. The BC baffles are supposed to help with performance. I can feel a slight loss of torque on the lower end, but the top side MPH was opened up as well. I hit 107 the other day and it was still pulling strong. That was with the windsheild. In the past 105-110 was the lingering top. My guess is right now it will hit the 120-125. It's not that important to me to go fast. I just wanted to see what I gained from the free flowing pipes.

On the apes... I have to order 1 1/4 inch diameter risers for the bigger bar. Slight delay in progress.

I rode with a new group on Sunday. One guy had pipes so loud that I couldn't hear my bike to shift... I guess I should get a tach. I like the loud pipes but the cops have a field day with them out here.
The higher top end is always fun to explore on the right road.

I stopped running apes and open pipes as much as I liked them to stop giving the cops a reason. Just getting to old for the BS. I loved both apes and open pipes, still do. I'm sure certain parts of the country has tolerance for them.
