The older Ultra's do it as well? Then I bet all the 88A's do the same thing. I wonder if that is why my oil level has dropped about 1/2 quart over 2000 miles?

How many miles on your bike? Got any leaks? Seems a little much but maybe not...

I have put about 5000 miles on the bike and it has a total of 18000 miles. If it's leaking it ain't hitting the pavement.

If my memory serves me back when my bike had that mileage i was doing oil changes every 3000 miles and not having to add during the cycle. I have a 4 qt capacity so by the time 3k went by I was about 3/4 of a quart down. Bike never ran hot - so I was cool with it - now i know to keep it filled - its just better for the engine.
So, no I don't think it's a normal situation to loose 1/2 qt over 2k miles. But- if you run it hard that might be a factor. 1/2 a qt isn't that much anyway- that works out to a $5 smile...
Getting back to loosing it out of the carb and dripping after my longer days in the saddle and doing highway speeds my right saddle bag is covered in oil splatters - I added a qt after 2,500 this cycle, but my bike has almost 3x the miles as yours and I ride it like I stole it more often than I ride it nicely. The freeways out here move at 85 and if you don't keep up you get run over. I find my self often going even faster to stay away from aggressive drivers - CA phenomenon : we have these very wealthy people here that buy very expensive fast luxury cars, then get them worked on and then go out and become road warriors. they particularly love to challenge and F*ck with motorcyclists, especially if you are riding alone and you ride a Harley bagger. I have witnessed this first hand since 1995 out here. So when I'm adding that 1qt of oil cause I run my bike hard and fast it's self preservation - plus I love, I mean, I absolutely F&*kin love blowing those bloated aszmunches doors off every chance I get!!!!!!
