The other nite my wife called me to advize that there were 3 red squirrels looking at her from the top of the stairway...great. They were coming out from under the hall closet door which has about 3/4 inch to 1 inch space at the bottom of the door. I bought a have a heart trap ruling out a .410 right away. Over the course of 2-3 days I caught 3 red squirrels by placing the trap in the closet. Tame little puppies. You could actually pet them and they seemed nice enough. I drove them 10 miles away and let them lose.

So I removed the blockage at the bottom of the door to the closet. All happy to have gotten rid of the squirrels. A couple hours later I look up and there are 2-3 more red squirrels at the top of the stairway...you MF'ers!!! I set the trap again and caught 2 more for a total of 5. My wife says 7 because she caught 2 but let them out in the drive way. I told her that doesn't count because they came back in the house...women :icon_eek:

It is good to hear that you gave them some extra lives! :icon_You_Rock: I have the same mindset. Happy Holidays!

To a point I try. If the HHT didn't work I would use decon until they were gone. Left unattended the squirrels are pretty destructive.

Oh I understand that but it's good that you try! I had some fruit rats in my attic but they didn't last that long I didn't get them they left. I figured out how they got in and sealed up the spot and cut the trees away from the house. No more problems. But if I had to I would have used the same alternative.

Fuzzy tailed RATS don't get a second chance here. It's bang bang you're dead every time. For inside it would be 22 rat shot!

You did the humane thing Bad. Personally, I don't like killing nothing that ain't needing killing.

My cat keeps the squirrels inline. If they get too cozy around the house we will find a dead one laying on the porch. They get pissed at the cat. I can hear them squirrels yabbering in the tree's at him. It's funny. The squirrels on the other had will jack with the dog... get her to barking like crazy. It's a game to the squirrels.

Got another, that makes 6. other then a few mice that should be it.

The cat....our cat is over 20 years old she ain't chasing nothing but the food and litter box :icon_razz: . She's caught her share of varmints over the years. I'm a dog person but "Pearly" the cat and me go back a few years. When I go to bed she sleeps by my head and no not ass first. When she was younger she would hop up on the sink while I readied for work. She was a rescue cat as a kitten and doesn't like anyone but family. When a stranger comes over she lays low until they are gone.

You're probably wondering how pit bulls and cats get along? They don't. We use to have 2 cats............

The fuzzy varmints I have are: possums, gophers, fruit rats, and field mice.

I spray the possums with the garden hose when I catch them in the fruit trees, but more often than not I see them only after my dog has mortally wounded one and he's circling around it waiting for it to move so he can get it again. He doesn't like the way they taste and usually chokes up a hair ball afterwards.

The gophers are are real menace, they under mine the yard and you can be walking along and fall into a sink hole and hurt yourself... I hurt my knee mowing the lawn that way, I have no use for gophers. I have a gopher trap that uses a steel cable attached to a spring. Once tripped - the cable constricts the midsection of the gopher and humanly dispatches them. The dog loves gopher, I've found him digging up the trap and eating what he could get at. The first time it happened, I cleaned the dead gopher out of the trap and left in on the ground to get a plastic bag to wrap it up in. I came back and the gopher was gone. I looked around and figured that the little bugger wasn't completely gone and came to and went back down his hole. The next time it happened - I was sure the job was done this thing was cold and stiff as a board. I dropped it on the ground and the dog ran over and sucked it down like spaghetti. or that's what the tail looked like as he swallowed it whole.... he did crunch it a little... Now I have to be careful cause he digs up the trap and makes a real mess out of things.

Fruit rats love my tangerine trees, they use the overhead wires to get from yard to yard... It's like a shooting gallery. I have a little BB gun that works great on rats nice part they go off some where else
and never come back.

I had some mice in the workshop. I had a 5 lb. bag of flour I was planning a paper mache project with. They found the flour before I could use it and made a heck of a mess. I threw the flour away and they stopped coming around, IF not they would have had a last meal of peanut butter and mouse trap.

The varmints don't get much of a chance in these parts...

You can have it cheap.
You can have it fast.
You can have high quality.
PICK ANY 2....

One thing about all the varmits... they will infest your house given half a chance. Racoons, squirrells, rats, scorpiens... whatever they are. Once they have a good foot hold the place is never the same. I don't fault people for killing them, they are a health hazard. My wife has got me to watch that show "Infested" a few times... it can get bad.
