I can remember a funny moment when polishing the chrome on my Heritage in the first year I had it. My latest GF has called me obsessed about my bike on a regular basis, so, KS you're in good company. I was working on my bike this summer with the new tires and the carb rebuild. It was the hottest time of the year so I did what I could at night when it was cooler. Here i am with a small flashlight in my teeth working away getting the bolts out for the intake manifold- its a slow and tedious job because of the wrench clearance. She comes out and sees me working and I got the same reaction - OMG you should see yourself, I was laughing too hard to hear the rest of what she was saying... I'm her first motorcyclist :icon_smoking:
I told her to get used to it. - NOW- she's all "Can I go? - Can I go?" - I think I created a monster... she sat on some bikes at the dealership. Then I took her too look at Scooters - Honda PCX 150 - I told her she should start out small :icon_clap:

I think you may have been the person to suggest the carb cleaning... thanks. It was one of you guys. Thanks guys. I hope it can be cleaned with just treating the fuel. If I have to I will pull it apart.


Credit goes to Lenny, he's on top of things. I just second a good idea when i get the chance. At 33 mpg you're in the ball park for average mpg's. And hitting it again is a good idea.

I put another triple dose of B12 yesterday. This time I let it did not empty the carb overnight. I'll let it set in the carb while it is off during this treatment.

KS, I was wondering, does the bike run differently now that you're getting better gas mileage?

Possibly... it's hard to tell. It was running great (at least to me) before. I think the MPG it getting close to 35ish. I have been riding hard to and from work (75-85). I need to take a 200 mile road trip where I drive the speed limit with normal riding.... it may hit 38 then. I will test it when I am off.

That still seems low. I get in the 40's with my bagger.

The only time I got low mpg's is when I cammed my 2001 w/ the SE 204 cam. It stayed in the mid 30's but boy did she have some get up and go. From a dead stop and passing especially.

I get a drop in mileage over 75, low/mid 30's... so you're not too far off anymore.
Last tank - running 80+ 2up - (before you guys start thinking I'm careless - that's just traveling traffic speed on the roads we were on and going slower only makes you a road hazard), I got 33.4 mpg. One heck of a head wind on the way home didn't help either.

Your bagger is well tuned machine of which only your buttocks have graced it. There is no telling who did what, when, where, on mine :icon_laughing: It's looking like the fuel system was gooped up. I think the best case for MPG on my WG is 42... that is just by memory.

They should be able to hook your bike to their computer and see if its had what stage download or a cam? I cannot imagine a Wideglide only getting 35MPG.

Moving a couple miles an hour faster than traffic is what I was taught also as part of the safety course.
