Welcome from your neighbor in New Mexico. it is always a good thing when you can talk about the crash. As they say, "it's not if but when". I hope we are only allowed one in our lifetime!!!

Boy I'll second you on that. I now have a patch on my PGR vest, "Crashing Sucks". True words there!

Curious there, hogcowboy, did you have a helmet on when you did your crash thing?

Sure did. Helmet and leathers. I really think that's the only reason I'm still here. I did find out something this last weekend during relax time between PGR Veterans Day ceremonies. Talked to another member who has been down the road I crashed on and he said pavement on that curve would eat a car it was so tore up. That explains a lot to me cause when I went through the area after I got out of the hospital I could not see a reason for the crash even though I was blinded by the rain. They had resurfaced that corner after the crash. So with an absolute downpour and major surface problems, I can now understand a little more about what happened. I never could understand why the reckless driving charges was dropped while I was still in the hospital and completely out of it. My wife told me about that later and it just never made sense. I bet someone somewhere saw a law suit coming. Might have happened to if I had known all this sooner but probably not. I'm really not that kind of guy but the thought would have been there.

A helmet also makes one good rain hat...

What kind of leathers where you wearing? and did they help?
What about boots and gloves? I shredded a glove one time but my hand was ok.

I have a pair of heavy leather pants, that I hope I never have to know how good they are. They look/feel like you could slide down a mountain in them and laugh the whole way down though.

I don't remember what brand the leathers were now but they must have worked cause I didn't have one bit of road rash. Just a BUNCH of broken bones. The EMT's cut all the leather off but maybe one reason I got no road rash was because they were soaked. You know how leather gets slick when it's wet? I had wished I had rain gear but not having it might have helped. I got rain gear now anyway but I sure don't look forward to having to use it. :icon_rolleyes:

Yeah - sorry to hear that you got busted up - but not having a bunch of road rash to get infected was a silver lining. And the wet leather probably did help slide instead of shred...

Thanks. Everything has mended except for my leg. It was shattered with 4 breaks and splinters all over the place. 3 pieces of metal and I lost count at 28 screws holding it together. Last X-ray showed the bigger of the 2 bones partly mended but the smaller 1 still has a gap. But they are growing together at any rate. Don't know exactly what that means for sure but the doc says I'll probably be in pain the rest of my life anyway. That's the 1 complaint I have now. It's nothing new to me. I've been in pain most of my life with a bad back. The only time I'm not in pain is when I'm riding. Guess I'm concentrating on the idiot cagers so much that I have no time to think about the pain. Ever onward!

My mom was in her 80's and fell and broke her arm - shattered it, those are the worst. Do the Dr's have you taking any calcium supplements? That stuff really works. I used to look at the x-rays with the Dr and he explained the process. Just plain calcium tablets.

I think you're on to something - I have a bad back also - and it only hurts when I'm not riding!! I only wish the rest of the aches and pains were so easily masked.

I've been told that TUMS of all things is one of the best sources of calcium you can find. So I've been eating that stuff by the hand fulls. Two big bottles a week of the 750 stuff. Don't know if it's helping but I'm trying. No the damn doctors never ever said a thing about taking extra calcium. Probably figure at my age it wouldn't help anyway or something. Or they are all just quacks. They are another group that just wants money and then have you go away!

I buy the calcium at Costco - 600 mg - I take one a day.
Calcium is good for you at any age.
Its only bad if you have problems with Kidney stones or gall stones...
The tums have extra sugar - more calories- taste like candy-

I had a broken knuckle that just kept on hurting for over a year - every time I'd bump it, I knew it. I started taking the calcium and in a coupe months it was as good as new. Been taking it ever since.
