(*^&&*%#*&^&*^## Dayum! Alls I could think when I was watching the sequence was "Never take your eye off the prize .

When placed in a similar frenetic pressurefull situation when on the bike I become inwardly 110% focused and nothing else matters but utilizing my whole being to survive. If I ever start getting flighty like that guy...its time to hang it up. It'll kill ya as seen by the unfortunate scenario you shared.

Navigating inner city traffic in the major cities is one. Negotiating windy mountain roads in traffic is another. Exiting or entering roads,interstes etc is another. Not time to be even slightly or remotely distracted. I'm talking from experience and I know all you guys who ride know what I'm saying. Cheesing in most any situation while rolling is tempting the fates and is a rookie ass mistake.

Good thing it was a Corvette and not a Mack logging truck. I'm assuming he survived. Believe it or not, we have some roads down here that look just like that. My favorite type of riding, but I go slow and easy and enjoy the smell of the mountains. Nice bike too that he destroyed.

Usually, it's the guy in the car killing us. The vette driver gave that idiot every inch of road and more. You can tell the rider did the one thing - the first thing - that we're taught, look where you want to go. Too bad he was fixated on the car and not the turn.

Like you said RK...stay focused. I can't help but think the motorcycle rider was a new and older rider.

On a curve, waving and looking at the camara, not sure what he was thinking. I hope he survived with no injuries.

I know I have done stupid things riding, I try not to, but I have. I am thankful that during those momentary lapses of judgement the other parties were looking out for me, like the guy in the vette tried to do for him.

Early on... me too. And if I start up with the life threatening behavior again it'll be because I'm losing it due to getting older. Id seen it in my fathers friends. They ignored the warnings. BAd things happened, I won't go into details. I just hope I recognize those early signs as I get older.

Some of the key 2 wheeled survival abilities start to wain. Things like periphery vision, read and react, hand eye coordination and ability to anticipate speed and distance in a rolling highway or in town mauever. The changes are subtle. Their impact starts raising red flags of initial annoyance and frustration. If early acknowledment is embraced, adjustments of adaptation can be made. To ignore...disaster. But I think at some point when extreme alterations of ones abilities start I believe for the sake of your loved ones you should stick a fork in it altogether.

My father stopped riding to events and towing instead, riding when he got there. He was able to ride well into his 70's that way. And staying local. He lived in rural USA and where the countrified back roads are for the most part sparesly used.


One of my fathers friends from urban compact Connecticut was in denial of his failing skills and one day while leading a procession of bikes (me included) tried to take us up an off ramp instead of an on ramp. Same fellow had mutiple and avoidable rear enders(not stopping soon enough in in-town traffic). All his friends/peers tried to encourage him to let it go and its time to be done. He continued to deny any short comings. What happened? Well he was coming up an on ramp to I-395 in Connecticut neat Voluntown, didn't visually clear the lane before preceeding and got run over by an 18 wheeler. He had just just retired from Electric Boat too. Family was devestated. It was not the way he wanted to go. He was just another hard headed Pollack.

I don't know about you guys, but my spidey senses get super charged when I ride. But I do see a difference from year to year. The stiff joints slow me down so I try to keep that in mind. My timing is a little off on some days - miss a shift - bloop the gas at the wrong time, let the clutch pop out to quick and buck... beginner stuff. I can ride in my sleep but I have my moments. I do keep a clock count in my head - road, mirror-mirror, road. Don't fixate-2 seconds can be catastrophic. My body can't afford any more trauma.
