It's already setting in.

It was never such an issue until the kids were gone. When the kids were little, winter time was filled with hockey practice, gymnastic practice,skiing,snow boarding, public skating (them not me ) but I was their transportation and suport crew. Didn't have time to think about I wish I was riding my motorcycle.

I had been keeping another bike down in NC since 2007 and would go down in December and also in March/April for 2 weeks each time for extra riding but sold that bike this year when my daughter moved out.

Contemplated a snowmobile. But you know whats worse then breaking down on your motorcycle? Breaking down on your snowmobile in the the middle of God forsaken no where and in the middle of the forest somewheres,lol. I live in a pretty good location for riding a snowmobile. I have 12 acres and about 4-5 acres is pasture, Across the street is another open pasture of about 20+acres. But buying even a used snowmachine for 3-4000$ just to ride around the pastures seems a silly waste of money I think.


*****quick story****a friend of mine same age bought a really nice limited edition snow machine. Big bucks. He foolishly let his girl friends son and who was a stupid irresponsible 16 or 17 years old. The kid stalled it on a trail. Walked back to the house to get my friend but when they got back someone had stole it. Viva America,lol. It wasn't insured either.

You guys like Eddie,Kickstand,RK and others who are just coming into a comfortable temp for enjoyable riding, be kind take lots of pictures and share and tell a story for us snow bound bro's every now and again .

It's hard for me to imagine how harsh the winters must be that far up there. The last time I experienced a harsh winter was in the 70's in Michigan and I was knee high to a grasshopper. I'll post pics of our winter riding season for you. It has started getting cooler here now... in the 50's at night. High today 67.

I want to see the upper Northeast one day. It's as much a mystery to me as Rome.

It's not hard for me to imagine cause I still remember it with very vivid detail.

As we discussed in the chat room, I've been working on camera mounts for my bike - for videos.
I'm taking the GF out today and she just bought herself a brandy new pocket camera that she is going to be firing off as much as possible so - the process begins.

Your temps sound like the perfect riding weather.

Northeast winters.........last winter was pretty decent. Not to cold, only a few minus days and not much snow..it was weird.

Its hard to predict each winter, best one can do is be prepared. Get on a good fuel service contact(3.68 a gallon+ for #2 fuel and 3.45+ a gallon propane). Make sure furnace is serviced. If not all wheel or 4 wheel get studded snow tires. And keep the generator on stand by.

Camera mount sounds cool beans RK. I've seen a couple you tube vids of them and some really capture the moment on a serious touring road. Thanks for the effort and olooking forward to seeing your "productions". Don't do anything to risky...not worth it.

I have seen video's of the bike camera's, but don't know much about it. WHat kind of setup are you going with? Is it remote start and stop?

I have 2 cameras.
One is a small all in one video camera with a 9 minute maximum run time. Then you plug it into the computer unload the video and it recharges while this goes on. The camera mount is a Velcro strap and clip.

The other camera is a standard point and shoot I got last march. I can do video's with it 20 minutes per video and it will go until I fill the memory card up. I bring an extra set of batteries for extended life. The camera mount is one from Fry's Electronics, it goes on the handle bars and then the camera screws on to it. This is the one I plan on using the most.

I'm still working it out but I plan on just being able to get to the parts of the ride I like then turning the cam on and hitting the record button and ride. Nothing crazy, or should I say crazier than normal. Just some riding so you can see the sites and come along. Not as good as being there but, I hope it can capture enough to make a snowy day warm.

The mount was 15 bucks and it works with all cameras with the screw mount threaded socket on the bottom. So if your cam has the threads and you have a spot on the bars that it fits you can do the same easily. I'm going to have to mess with it to make sure the aim is right but that should be easy.

The GF was afraid she was going to drop her brand new cam yesterday so no ride pics but she did take some at lunch - we stopped at a place called Tom's Farm. They had a live band, the food was good and the people we sat next to were sweet old retirees out for a sunday meal. We did the Ortega - that's prime vid road - next time, it was late and the sun was in my eyes but I loved it. Made it home right after the street lights came on and my dark sunglasses were getting dangerous. Miles for the day around 150.

Living vicarously thru your roadtime,lol.
