Hey Kickstand, question. B163, I assume this is the harness that goes through the rar fender from the connector under the seat.
If so, I have inspected every inch of every wire and every connector from under the tank to the back of the fuse blocks to the tail light.
All the connectoes look good as well as all the pins.
There was a tiny flake of oxidation on one of the pins in the connector for the rear fender harness, cleaned and reconnected.
Cleaned both sides of the fuse block as well as the ABS connector.
Gonna put it all back together and go for a ride before I go any further cus the next stop is the front end. Never had the fairing off.

Sounds like you did a really good job so far - inside my headlight housing is full of wires and connectors - if it happens again inside the fairing would be where it is. Some stuff runs under the tanks also. Your BEST OPTION is to get the manual - I bought mine 18 years ago and it has saved my butt numerous times easily paying for itself over and over.

I also do all my own work - I'm the best mechanic I know - I'm not in a hurry to make money, I just want it done right - I use my manual every time - its the first tool I reach for.

Party on dude.

A bad connection can cause you intermittent problems, hopefully you found the issue. As RK suggested, if you plan to work on it yourself, get the manuals.

On my Heritage, sometimes when I get on it and hit hte start button it does nothing. I have to get off the bike, slap it on the seat hard and it will start right up... the starter module get's oxidized on the connectors or some nonsense like that.

I "discovered" my electrical issue when I purchased some JM Corp helmets and intercoms. They wouldn't work on my 1998 Ultra( and which was purchased used at 10 years old with a 2 year extended warranty). Dealership said it was the helmets. JM Corp said BS and called the dealrship in question..it was the wiring harness. Under warranty and replaced free of charge. But how is that for customer service from JM Corp, lol.

A tip for how to spot a decent dealership....the service desk is commandered by an old time no bullshit scooter tramp road dog...doesn't necessarily mean long hair or short hair but he cuts right to the deal and is fair and compromising not greedy.

A sign of a suspect dealership is one that either a saleman, service manager or parts guy kinda hems and haws around an issue or price. I feel they do that because they know the margin of profit they can make if they over charge you and feel you do not.

Over my life time of Harley ownership I stopped going to dealerships when they changed over to the fusha and foo-foo chrome look of today back in the late 70's early 80's. Many old time delaerships made or were forced to make the change. And what a damn shame too. Some of the older shops like the one in Brunswick,NY had really nice and ancient HD artifacts all over the shop before the switch ove. You couild feel the heritage when you walked in. It once was a log cabin type structure and last I saw it was this benign cinder block deal. Many old time dealerships like Quatros (when Quatros' closed and they went in the attic they found brand new Pan and Knuckle motors and stacka and stacks of still in the box old HD OEM parts) and Arnolds did not. They simply said FU and closed shop. Some after 50-60+ years of ownership. Aftermarket independents were a mixed bag of success. I had one indy try to steal my Panhead. Remington 870 showed him the error of his ways. I never pulled the trigger, I didn't have to. But I would have.

As a long time(and long winded) HD fan I really really like where the dealerships are now with regards to customer satisfaction and service. Why? Not because they are all 100% straight up but there aere enough that are solid you have choices. The S bag dealerships will eventaully get theres in the end. Word of mouth is effective.

Bad influence, I opened evertthing up and inspected under the gas tank andthe harness back to the rear fender.
I also disassembled the lh sude caddy, cleaned the fuse blocks front and back with contact cleaner and compressed air.
Found nothing that said "look at Me" which sux.
Rode it today 80 miles round trip with no issues. Hate the fantom problems, but will be happy if it never returnes.
Three more days to ride this week in Houston. Weather is absolutely great.
Thanks for your help everybody.

Being an '08 you be better served for the dealership to hook it up to their machine. It will cut down you expedition by pinpointing the location in seconds. Unfortunatley or fortunately HD has gone the way of modernized cars. Plug and play and electronic diagnostics.

Yeah if a quick connect and diagonis is readily available - there's not much the HD tech can f up so I'd even consider that - just for time saved.
