Hey guys;
just got it back from the dealer , seem that the 103 dosen't like to have any excess oil in the system.
I had changed oil and added 3.5 qts . which is about 1/8 of a qt. too much. This will cause a small oil leak at the air filter.If you change or
service your air filter every other oil change, the filter gets saturated and will leak some oil. The oil leak or drip will stop after the oil level
has stabilized. Again Thanks for the help. Alls well in HD land.

Congrats on the find. I just got to the end of this thread and see you found the solution. A friend of mine did the same thing with his 2007 Ultra (his created a big mess). When my Heritage was at the full mark I would notice some oil streaks on the oil tank. I started running it about 1/2 quart low and it seemed to help.

Never heard that before. When the oil level was lower did the problem go completely away or just not as bad?

Sorry, I was off a few days and I don't get on the computer as much.

A lot of my road time is on the highway and a lot of that is 80-90 (more so with Heritage than with the Wideglide). For some reason I have it in my head that after one of my oil changes I noticed streaks on the oil tank. I don't remember why I decided to run it 1/2 quart low, but it seemed to go away after that. I have heard of other folks having the same experience.

Oil streaks can also be caused by over charging your K & N filter... :icon_laughing: I have done that before. It seemed to take a while for that to stop.

I have some streaks on my right side saddle bag, the oil drops seem to be blowing past my leg and onto the bag.
Now that I think about it, its been doing that since I bought it. Never wondered if it was a problem, just washed it off on bath day.
Bike runs and rides... the important issues are covered...LOL

I said 1/2 quart low, but it may be less than that. It's halfway between full and empty on the dipstick. I did a little searching around hte web and it's a common problem. From some of what i read, it sounds like some folks empty thier oil and then pour in whatever amount it is supposed to hold rather than adding three, run it breifly to fill the oil filter, and add oil until it hits the full mark. They assume if you empty it, then you just add 4 quarts. I did that on my first oil change and after that add/check/add.

However, the running a little low on oil is one of the fixes people use, but not all favor it.

I do the 3 and run in then top it off...
I check the level after every few tanks of gas, add as needed but I keep it up to the full level because air cooled engines need every drop of oil they can get.
As for the mess, soapy water.

I agree, in the end a little oil on the bike is no big deal... especially when you compare it to bird poop, bug juice, and road kill splash. :icon_laughing: it may even cover up the smell.
