I'd stay away from the oven cleaner and the windex. Pledge works very well, or you should try Bug Slide. When I'm on a long ride I just take a wet Micro-fiber in a Ziploc and a dry one. I lay the wet Micro-fiber on the windshield while I fill-up, then use it to wipe off the mess and finally polish with the dry one. Take it in to the bathroom with you and rinse it out and place it back in the bag. Or you can rinse it out in the stations windshield cleaning bucket.
I've heard of the bug slide, where do you get it?
Pledge? I'll give it a try...
I've been using the same process as you with the wet rag, but when I'm home and the windshield is so easy to remove I just lean it up against the garage and hose it down let it sit for a while and then wash it with the micro rag...
