You can use a "bug bomb" no flames, get them at the Home Depot or Hardware Stores...
A 3 pack is about 10 bucks and as a bonus you get rid of any termites, spiders and such...
When blocking use materials like corrugated steel or wire mesh fencing where possible to stop any gnawing through....
