I'm looking for a cherry 4.5 new-style Sportster tank that can install all of the electrical nonsense from a 48 as a "plug and play." I do not wish to cut up anything stock in case the original tank has to go back on.
I don't care what color it is, it's going to be repainted and have stock Sportster 48 decals applied. No dings.

Hey, thanks for the info. That's exactly what I want. Now the question is who makes it, and is it of equal or superior construction to an OEM 4.5 gallon tank.
The price is about what I want to pay for it.

A few days ago I spoke with the service department manager at Capital City about a new back tire for Betty, and we spoke again about swapping out Spinner's tank. He also agrees that at least one of his clients is going to want to build a custom with a peanut tank and not want to keep the 4.5 gallon stock tank.
Oh, and another thing. I'm not really under a time constraint. I want a bigger tank, one will show up, and I'll upgrade. In fact, if the original cost estimate hadn't knocked my socks off I'd have changed one out already.
With the potential for higher gas prices this season, I'll probably ride Spinner more than Betty this year. It would be a nice feature to carry more fuel. Nice, not mandatory.
I do look at your 883 tank, however, and get a bit jealous.
