I used to change my own oil. Now I just go to the shop.

As I've told some of you, my area does not make collection easy. We used to have an oil recycling barrel right on the main street next to a gas station. When that stopped, I heard we had one at our local "recycling center." We used to call that 'the dump.' Never found it.

After that, those quickie change places stopped accepting client oil fearing that there would be paint thinner mixed in with the oil. Finally I just stopped playing scavenger hunt with gallon water jugs full of scrap oil and let my wrench do it.

Check your local retail car parts stores, many take used oil too. They usually sell vtwin oil for your bike. I don't know how many of these stores are national chains, Kragen, Chief Auto, ORilley, etc.

We have a Napa chain, but I don't know if they take oil. In fact, I've never talked to any biker at the shop who has a set place to recycle. Lots of guys buy oil, where they dump it, who knows. My guess is that there are lots of 'slippery ravines' around Madison.

I use to for the first 37 years but once upgrading in technololgy 3 years ago I make enough money I sub it out to the dealership. I use Synthetic oil but still have it changed at the regular intervals.

When I retire and money is not as plentiful as my free time will I'll probably go back to doing as much as I can, God knows I have all the necessary equipment/tools/manuals. When ever I purchase a bike whether used or new I purchase the factory repair manual and the parts manual. I take them over to UPS and they punch holes in them and put them in a spiral binder for cheap, lol.
