Okay here is my deal. I am almost 65 years old. I have not ridden a road bike for over 30 years. I rode from Montana to Michigan by myself no group. Kids are gone and so is the mortgage it is time for my Harley. I have decided that I will purchase a used bike. Have located two that peak my interest. A 2000 Road King and also a 1999 Road Glide. My question is should I fear a bike with 60,000 miles on it. The Road King has the 60,000 on it. I am not sure I fully trust the young sprout that is working as a salesperson for the dealership. My first ride was a suzuki 750 triple water cooler. Was a good bike but was fairly new when I assaulted Michigan. My reasoning on the used bike is that if I decide I would rather drive a model A ford I won't be in to deep. Only Harley I have ever ridden was a 1955 model back in about 1964 it was a love affair from the first rev. Fairly certain that I will not own the used bike long before it is upgraded to something way newer if not new. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

there are soooooo many bikes out there for sale at great prices i would not settle for a 60,000 mile bike. check craigs list or ebay for something close to home for sale. You will find a guy with a great bike, no miles that wants to sell cheap. make sure that you look around.

That's some good info that tyancey00 gave you. Look around you will probably find something that has sat in a garage and the wife wants it gone. There are lots of bikes around that have 3,000 to 10,000 miles on them. But then again how much are the bikes that you are looking at? If they are a real steal of a deal then they could be worth it. Lotsa bikes out there for sale now.

Don't be in a hurry. Do your research. Be willing to walk away from any deal and you'll be ready to buy.
There are many bikes with low miles just waiting to be plucked, look around and compare.

I would stay away from the bike with all those miles on it. Like the other posters said, ther are many bikes out there with a lot less miles. Take your time, look around and you'll find your bike.

I am haunted by the idea of a +90 inch shovel jammed into a Sportster frame. I lust for this bike. Unless I buy a re-creation of the engine at TP or S&S, I'll have to settle for one used and abused.

No big deal. My mechanic can bring anything back from the dead.

Lots of car guys search junk yards for an old frame and chassis to build roadsters. We can, too. But if you want a 'plug and play' used bike, do pay special attention to the mileage and the wear. Betty has miles, but is more perfect than a new bike.

I would pass on both bikes. 60,000 is getting up there not knowing the bike. and 1999 were tolerance issues and first year for TC.

May I suggest perusing Craigs list and other web sites for sale section. Of course there are a few things you need to do to protect yourself. Always cash and carry. Comnpression test say alot. Don't be afraid of a little road trip to save money. For example I know of a FLHP with 6000 miles for under 10,000$ in a dealership in Ohio for sale right now.

Only 6700 miles currently, still riding it here or there occasionally, should still have less than 7k on it when sold.

(BTW, about the importance of a 'post count.' It's a worthless statistic. I don't care if a doofus has 10 posts or 10,000 posts. All too often we try to judge a guy by the number of times he writes something. But if it's not worth reading and he's not worth knowing, then the count means nothing. And when someone complains about 'the count,' then I know he's got nothing to say of any great importance. Quality will show itself, pro or con.)

Well I'm retired and just got my 1st Soc Security check so yes I'm an old guy. I had a couple old Honda's back in the early 70's and never got back on a bike till this last May. I looked at lots of Harley's but found a 2004 Sporty with 6000 miles on it. There were lots of them I looked at with low mileage, but the Sporty just felt right for me.

Buy what you like. Ride it. Enjoy it.
