I suffered at work yesterday, it being the worst day of the year traffic wise, as everybody breaks up for the August bank holiday weekend. the first good heavy rain, which we have long needed, sure picked it's time, & made matters worse. A normal round trip of around 7 hours took 10, & it would have been a lot, lot, longer if instinct hadn't have told me to go a couple of alternative routes.
The job went wrong as well, taking 5 hrs instead of the usual 1 hr. So all in all, up at 2.30am, home at 7 pm, feeling a little strained.
I pushed my pickup a little hard on the way home, & she lost traction, 'all the road grease coming out after the rain' It's been a year since the last time I noticed this phenomina, & so had time to let it sink back into the dusty archives.
:icon_eek: SOON WENT ON RECALL ! You know, "when you have to start doing the steering wheel dance at 75 mph".
Lessons learned :- Must put something heavy , in back of pickup, if it rains, Aug bank holiday, next year ! :icon_twisted:

In my area it's the first snowstorm, especially if there's ice on a bridge. People who have lived in Wisconsin all of their lives suddenly forget how to drive. One of the biggest problems it causes is "drive offs" from guys slipping off of the roads. They block shoulders for real emergencies. We also get far too many fender benders.

Out here in CA. our rainy season starts in October, the first few rains usually shut down most of the major freeways with collisions... reason the same, the oils get washed out of the pavement and the roads are as slippery as ice in spots. AND back when I was in Upstate NY, the first snow brought us out to the window to watch the cars go by - side ways - ...
Stay safe out there.
