From the Turning Tread: http://www.harleyridersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=807So, Tourist, I saw a guy ride by with the bars on and they looked great, I don't know if they were the same ones you were looking at though, and he didn't stick around for me to ask. That said, it *breifly* looked like he had plenty of room. I don't know how tall he was or you so take that for what its worth. He had pegs mounted same as mine. The bike looked plenty cool.

Hey, just found the thread. I am still interested in the guards, I have seen some with the pegs on them from riders passing by. So these just snap on? Do they get in the way at all with your feet?

I was at the shop today, but I forgot to look closer at the Sportster with the skid bars. It's supposed to be nice again tomorrow, so I'll make sure my loop passes the shop. I do not remember if that Sportie had forward pegs like Spinner, but I'll measure and ask a bunch of dumb questions.

Do they get in the way at all with your feet? They clamp on and mine are pretty sturdy. I've never had any problems other than: trying to hit the brake pedal and being 6 inches away from it, typical dumbazz move. I got too comfortable. I use the front brake first but this time duh. never happened twice... yet.. still a dumbazz. I think any street motorcycle over 300 lbs could use the bars just to make it easier to pick it back up if the bike fell over not to mention saving a paint job. I've seen long distance guys mount lights on them.

They were moving bikes around today. No luck with any info. I'm going back tomorrow, and I'll try to get info on which skid bars are available, how they mount, best choices for forward controls and most importantly, how hard are they to soap up at bikini bike washes.

Make sure you take plenty of pictures for um... Research at a later date.

Well, RK, I would be remiss in my duties here if I failed to fully research this trend-setting new aspect here at HRF. Some photos may already exist.
The reason I bring up the installation concerns is that I've been burned before. A seemingly minor modification of a parts effects numerous models. For example, a woman I know had a lid on one of saddlebags bounce off of the cement near her home. She is now tabulating which is cheaper--just having someone repaint it with the proper Harley matching paint or buying a new lid. Come to find out that there are many lids for many year-specific models. Since I've never had the traditional fiberglass Harley bags I 'assumed' they were all of the same design.
Now, I would see no point in making products that could never work in conjunction with each other. Forward controls exist for Sportsters, so why would MoCo bend a set of bars that would hit them. On the face of it, it would seem logical to make them work together. But like I said, I've been burned before.

FYI,,, You friend can prolly buy a whole new "bag" on e-bay in the correct color for less than it costs to repair one.

Yes, I just want to know what my options are and what would be best if I do want to make modifications on other parts on my bike if I do get bars. I also want to be sure that they are easy enough that I can install to save money on getting it done at a shop.

I figured they make a different style/size for the different controls/bikes. Plus take into account rider size and inseam not to mention boot size and if that boat foot even fits between them. The only way for you to "know" if its going to work is to see it work and then do the same thing, else you're the one doing the R&D and spending the time and money to figure it out.
