I have an 08 Heritage Softale Classic with an upgraded HD speedo with a tach and color lit face. I just rode from Montana to Oregon and noticed both gauges go to 0, then back to my speed and rpm. Kept an eye on it and noticed it several times. I tried to make it happen with accelerating, shifting, varying gears, ect. Didnt make a difference. Then it didn't happen the rest of the trip. (Or I was enfoying the ride and forgot about it.) When I got home I removed it and checked all connections and nothing looks suspicious. Anyone with similar issues or suggestions? Not sure if diagnostic's check would even show anything.

Sounds like a loose connection...
I'd check all con's for any type of loose/dirty/corroded conditions.. Wish I could be more help.

Welcome to the forum! Since you already checked the connections and found them to be okay, I would look at the speedo there could be something wrong on the inside. Did you go over a bump when it went out? I would put the old one back in to see if it works corretly. If so then the new speedo is the problem. If you still see the problem with the old one then you have a wiring problem.

Please update us with what you find.

Thanks for the suggestion of putting the old one back in. I seem to have lost my trouble shooting skills. The old one, so to speak is the stock model that only has the speedo, no tach, and is like brand new also, I'll change it out and let you know. Might take me a couple days to reply, I'm not riding in tomorrow. The same problem was happening today on my ride home from work, so it seems to be esculating. Just for info my Heritage is always stored inside, kept cleaner than clean usually. So where is the odometer info stored? Back at the "chip", under the seat?

That's a good question. I would of though that it was stored in the speedo. If you are switching them out and you still have the same mileage then it must be in the chip somewhere. Again very interested on what you find out.

I swapped out the speedo. Old milage. I better save it incase i ever sell it. I called the dealership and they said they had to "calibrate it". I had them throw it on when i had the stage 2 done to it. I only had about 2500 miles on it. . Oh, they also told me they quite making that model speedometer/tachometer. Hmmm. Is that a sign? I'll ride tomorrow and see if it happens.

Just so I'm clear, you mean that the mileage is kept in the individual speedometers and each registered a different number?

Yup, looks to be the case. The odometer has the miles of when It was taken off. I rode friday and never saw the speedometer go to zero, but worked on my truck over the weekend and helped a neigbor drop a big tree, so I'll see how it goes this week. I just have to remember to try and look at it. I'm usually looking around at the sand dunes or wondering if thats a state police comming at me. I'll probably run it this week, then swap back and maybe use some dialectic grease on the hot lead, just to see if its the connector. My manual should be in tomorrow so I can further isolate it. The HD shop thinks its just a bad wire connection and there may be another one somewhere under the tank or close to the seat, of course they have an opening for service, i just need to call.

Use it on all of them to be safe. Sometimes the crimps aren't tight, while you have it off check them also.
