I like the name "food for thought" I have no problem as long as this doesn't become the cooking channel! I see that some people like to cook here as long as they invite me to dinner I'm in.

I got a way to cook beef stew with just a knife...
First you take your knife and open the can.
Put the can on the side of the campfire for 10 minutes or until it boils over.
Use a heavy glove to take the can out of the fire.
Eat!!

I guess the lounge wasn't good enough for an occasional recipe trade?
I blame it all on that guy that asked how to cook salmon.... Oh - snap - that was me!!

...yikes, and I wonder who'll have to fix that knife...

Headmaster, IMHO, if a bike forum is really going to enhance the life of bikers we should delve beyond tattoos, leather pants, the best bikini at Sturgis and drunken war stories. We should try to get info out to our members here, whether it's about jetting a carburetor or fixing dinner.

While RK brought up the idea on salmon, I have been a (banned) member of a couple of cooking forums, and the info served me well. My wife has had a few surgeries over the past two years, and I've had to learn everything from picking out good bananas to fixing full healthy meals. Heck, half of the reason that bikers have beer guts is from eating crap.

The reason I like HRF is that we discuss real, actual non-poser issues. I'm not suggesting we all paint our Harleys pink and sing "Kumbaya," just that sometimes 'brotherhood' entails smiling on your brother.

well in truth I think expanding the core to include not only cooking but other helpful subjects would benefit everyone. Just think, we're answering mechanical Q's all the time, someone with extensive knowledge of a different core that we all share would be a winner, IMHO. We all eat. Sleep? oh Crap... LOL

Yikes, RK, we run the risk of being real bikers, discussing real topics and thumbing our collective noses at real posers. Gee, I hope I don't offend anyone...

Eh, HRF should be different. Being the first to do something is hard, and the only things worthwhile. Ya' know, we can still discuss carburetors and bikini girls.

So, I vote (publicly) Yes on new topics: Cooking, Bikini Girls, Help With, etc...
Just think, we could shoot off into new forums with our base of brotherhood and respect as a new standard in internet forums. *keep dreaming* but hey It could happen.

In seeking out a new knife forum--and one where one of my favorite cutlers was a member--I registered on one not knowing it had a world market. I've had to rub elbows with a lot of Europeans. I found out a few things.

One, I'm a more staunch American than I thought. I knew I was a strict constructionist, but I never knew just how redneck I was. If anything, that pleased me a great deal. I feel a compunction for not being a better mentor, but I sometimes felt I was just accepting a more side-lined existence.

However, the topic of cooking was a watershed for me. Why should bikers not be engaged in all facets of life? Sure, the traditional 'lifestyle' is a hoot, I did it for five years solid, and the shrapnel lingered well after that. But let's face it guys, not even the tax-paying residents of Sturgis live the 'Sturgis lifestyle.' We're kidding ourselves if we settle for "chrome and cognac" to define who we are.

I believe, and promote, that HRF is an honest slice of the distinctly American biker culture. Yeah, I still remember to how to crack your head open with a pool cue, but I'd also like to eat something that isn't deep-fried in salt and fat.

And here in this place, and amongst guys who really ride Harleys, we eat, we have homes and wives and we need the support of each other. If it takes a thread on eating and preparing food, if only one on barbeque sauces, I think it sets the bar we need.

Cooking and Eating tour 2012:
We meet up in central USA and do the BBQ Belt, loop down through the south then up the east coast and back across the Norther Corridor Each region has some unbelievable cuisine, make sure to pack your stretchy pants cause you're gonna get fat... LOL
