Hello, I know this is a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyways... I'm a new rider. I am having trouble turning right only after I come to a complete stop. I am fine if I roll the stop but this doesn't work when traffic is coming. Left I am fine because I have more room. I am going to take the Motorcycle training course in the end of September as it is all full until them (Already registered) I just want to practice if you have any tips? One of the times I tried when going real slow I ended up in the grass. I am sorry if this is not the right place to post and sorry for all of you experienced riders that are laughing at this. Any tips would be great that I could practice. Thank you

The turn is done the same way. Ease the clutch out to the friction point while putting your feet on the pegs. Step gently on the rear brake while the clutch is in that friction zone. Look down the road to where you want to be and the bike goes where you look. You'll be amazed how low the bike goes while tracking solidly.

My guess is that you are tentative, you're looking forward to the gauges or to your feet and you simply run out of radius room.

Here's a little advice, practice in a parking lot using the painted lines as markers. Come to the end of the aisle and imagine it to be the stop sign then make your turns. Worst case is you run over a painted line or drop the bike in a slow drop either way it's going to happen so why not away from any cars and property that can be damaged.
As for turning a motorcycle, you don't really turn a bike you lean it. You will learn this in that course but here's the highlights. Apply downward force on the inside bar end - the direction you want the bike to turn/lean/go.
So for your right turn, approach the corner from the left side of the lane as you make the stop angle the bike towards the direction you are turning before you stop. Make your stop. As you start off, release the clutch slowly and push down, towards the ground, on the right side handle grip with your weight. The bike wants to go straight as you let out the clutch, by applying the lean to the right you counter act the force of the bike wanting to go straight and the bike will lean into the turn and go in the direction you want.
IF you ever get into a situation that the bike is starting to not go in the correct direction ease off the gas and lean more on that handle bar. It takes a little practice but you'll get it.
Try this on a slow maybe 20 mph turn first, you'll see how easy it is to do.

Thank you, yes moving turns is no problem just when I stop then need to turn. I practiced a bit more today and am getting a better feel for it (not there yet). One time I stalled it in first because I was taking it too slow, luckily I caught the bike. How bad will it screw up my bike with no engine guards and a slow to stopped fall? I am so worried about dropping it, luckily I havnt yet. Thank you for all the help I practice everyday, just want to get it down good before I screw it up in the middle of traffic.

Harley makes a very simple and clean skid bar for the Sportster. I'm thinking about getting one in black for Spinner. (It's a work vehicle, and dinged up she cannot deliver stuff.)

Memory serves, I think it's about 200 bucks, a handful of fasteners and a cold drink.

"Skid bar" or "crash bar" is a slang name for an engine guard. Try this, they also come in chrome:

Are these easy to install without having much knowledge?

They should bolt right up. At my shop the parts counter guy or the service writer can give you suggestions as to installation techniques, tools needed, what fasteners work best, how to vibrate a killer chilled margarita on your paint shaker while you wait for the Blue-Loctite to set up, you know, the basics...

Worst case, you buy a wrench a Mountain Dew and he does it. And trust me, I buy food for the wrenches. It has saved me literally thousands of dollars over time.

Engine guards help quite a bit. I've had my feet slip out from under me a few times just as I'd pull up to a camp site in the sand or gravel and the guards totally keep the bike from getting really hurt. My guards have a couple scratches but the bike is fine.
