try a Google search, you may have to try several variations on the search term but you might get the info.

You can have it cheap.
You can have it fast.
You can have high quality.
PICK ANY 2....

I think the # is 60441-82A
We old shovel riders have to stick together.
These new fangled bikes don't have the character of the old ones.

On second thought the '85 may be a EVO on the old platform.
Is it a chain and 4 speed with a kicker?

Hi RoadKing, I haven't done anything as yet but I believe that the post about having the old frame is what I have ,I didn't think frames but after the post I checked and it is just like a old hertiage I had back in the late seventys so I think the earlier unit the post suggested will be ok. What happened was I fried the rectifier and I'm not too sharp on electrics so I took it to bay 6 in Evansville for that, got the typical 20 yr old. he started on it, then the (news)? I needed a stator too, be ready in another 2 days, Then the call that the Primary chain was shot and needed replaced.. I made the trip down to see what the hell was going on and found everything scattered on the bench, bike outside and was informed he couldn't get the basket off with his pullers and he was going to have a friend come over with a special tool and pull it on the weekend, knocked the hell out of little Sturgis but they had me in their grip by this time and they called about Tuesday it was ready. 1,280.00 later, so I picked it up did my usual bitching posted negative everywhere for them, but my worries only got worse, they must have used the old snap ring on the shifter back at the ratchet and the rod popped off going home, so while fingering around to install a new ring I felt some kind of soft glob on the back of the primary so I dug and pulled and low and behold out comes a big glob of silicone where they had appearently cracked the case prying on it hence now the puddle under it after a ride plus the drip from the other post about the crankcase breather that was not that bad, but the case is the main culpert. At 70 with all the things going on mowing, caring for wife I thought I would have the work done but never again, I'll just get into it and do it myself, First time to a small shop but they talked a good stick at first. I've did lots of clutches, tranny gear changes and all my own work on the old pans and then my favorite 68 FLH over the years just was kinda scared of this and needed the time for the wife at that time(My Big Mistake} I've always said if you want I done right do it yourself, Thats good advice!! get a good manual and follow it. I plan to pull the thing apart and maybe I can get it heli-arced and cure this all up, If not I'll find a 82A and try it. Special Thanks to all who have helped-hope to maybe help someone on the older stuff sometime, again THANKS for all the help. OldTimer... BTW on the older pans and some shovels my favorite was a big of sproket on the engine, 26 tooth on the tranny(bit of grinding required) and a 48 tooth on the rear makes a nice hi-way cruiser..

I think the only difference is the oring that goes on the case lip outside the stator.
Shovel oring is much thinner than the EVO oring.
Good luck

Stories like this break my heart, and are the reason I'm the only one allowed to touch my motorcycle.
I bought the shop manual from HD right after the 2nd time my bike was worked on. The first time the dealer tried to over charge me 3x the quote for an oil change.
Took it to a different dealer to replace a worn back tire, the next morning there was a puddle of tranny lube under my bike - first time I ever had that problem, did an inspection and found the problem to be the output shaft of the trans was leaking from the seal, took it back to the dealer and was told they "could" fix it for just $1,250.00... "You guys broke it" they over tightened the belt and hurt the seal. NOPE wasn't our fault. I went in bought the manual told them to kiss me where the sun don't shine and I've never been back to a dealership since. Took the bike home - read the manual - readjusted the belt tension - now it only drips once in a while, but it still drips. I usually pack a newspaper and a stone for when I park in someones driveway....
You want a professional job done - do it your self. +1
Sorry you had to learn the hard way.

It is truly a shame the level of service at your local dealer and many small shops has come to this. I have turned to working on my own scoot also. That is the reason I joined this forum. I can bring a little to the table and hopefully find what I need to keep my knees in the breeze.

Live it like u love it. spend it like u got it. Ride it like u stole it!
