(Guys, I wrote to RK on doing this review on a product because of our spamming problem this week. I do not rep for this company, I just found it at my grocer's and I bought a bunch of them retail.)

I have switched over to using nothing but microfiber cloths on my bikes, and I was looking for something to get fresh bug guts off the paint when I get home. I found these sponges at the grocery store. I bought a package of two, tried them, and then went back and bought them all!

It sounds simple, a sponge wrapped in a microfiber cloth--why didn't I think of this! I soak them, go out to my bike after it cools a bit, and wipe down all of the freshly spattered surfaces before anything gets a chance to stick. Including the shields on the exhaust pipes. Later that night I wipe everything down, using Bug Slide on the paint, and Windex on the chrome.

I liked these sponges so much I called their customer service department. I told them that their rack had been emptied, and that I had done it. The shipping carton shows the sponges being used on a sink, but I told them to market the product to Corvette owners and bikers with expensive trick paint jobs. I haven't seen one scratch or scuff mark.

By the way, my camera washed out the color, but these sponges are electric blue and a bright canary yellow. I got some grease on one, spritzed it with "Zout," and the thing came clean in the clothes washer.

Thanks for the tip, I have a mitten sponge/furry/sheepswool, that I get at the local target store. There are some sharp edges on the underside of the luggage rack and around the engine that skin my knuckles EVERY time. Seems the mitten saves me the blood and cuts but on the fenders and tank the microfiber might do a better job. I'm going to see what we have out here in my neck of the woods.
Since the tread is about washing paint I use the rinse/wax concentrated car wash and get pretty good results. For my chrome spoke wheels I use the Armorall spray on and hose off wheel and brake dust cleaner and get great results with minimal scrubbing, I use a bottle brush for the hard to reach places. After all the washing I use the leaf blower to get most of the water off. I've been using turtle wax since the bike was new and the paint looks great. A top to bottom cleaning takes about 3 hours start to finish. I don't touch it until the next full clean.

Speaking of bottle brushes, I've been thinking of using one if I stay with spoked wheels. The wheels on Spinner are either painted or powder coated.

The dealership has some "Christmas tree" shaped brushes, and I "assumed" that if Harley sold them then they must be safe on Harley surfaces.

What's your thinking on this?

I've never used the brush on a painted surface, so I can't say either way. I would caution you to be very careful, the brush end and stem are painted metal and against the chrome I'm not worried but against another painted surface I'm concerned. I really take my time with it and watch the fenders. You could wrap the stem with tape maybe to get a softer surface but be careful of the end with the bristles cause it has a sharp/hard edge/point. I have seen the brushes with a small sponge on the end and that might be a better choice instead of the bristles.
Option: make one with a wooden dowel and insulated wire, tie the sponge to the end with the wire...
Bottom line try it out in a "hidden" surface first just in case.

Well, that was my thinking, as well. The problem is that I am painfully OCD, and I can make an afternoon out of detailing Betty. I used to detail cars as a younger man for extra cash. I still have a lot of the same equipment.

New things are created and invented. Where I once used Gunk and diapers and red shop cloths each washed 200 times to make them soft, we now have Simple Green and microfiber cloths. Heck, I now only use Simple Green a few times per year, and then only on selected areas.

Additionally, I now have one of those filtered, slightly heated blowers for drying. Yikes, it's fast! No more water spots and a single microfiber cloth can finish the job.

Now if I can find something for 'nooks and crannies' my life would be perfect. It's the spokes... :icon_mad:

Yikes, I know that woman! Goes by the name of Vicki in Wisconsin. Tiny little birthmark on the back of her right thigh...

She got me to buy her a luffa.

If you ever have the chance, look closer and you will see that the birthmark says "hard rider". :icon_winking:

LOL.

Why, that little minx! She told me it said "ride harder."

Actually, she does look like an old girl friend from the late 1970's whose name was actually Vicki. A disco queen. If she ever got a tat it would say "shop harder." While I list her as my favorite mistake, it was clearly a case of my insanity getting out of control again. It was also the year I owned a Honda.

I'm feeling much better now...

Last night at the parts store I found a micro fiber mitten...
You guys think Vicki would mind heading over to my place to get the hard to reach spots for me?
