New to the forum and want to say Hi ! I'm OldTimer41 and I've been riding only harleys forever almost, Got my first one when I was 14 from a farmer I was working pitching hay for, He had an old knuckle in the barn and I ask him about it one day and he said if I would work thru the summer for him and was a good worker he would give it to me so I jumped at the offer much to my Dad's dismay but I got it and Dad and I tinkered with it trying to get it started, He must have threatened to haul it to the junkyard a hundred times. He didn't know anything about them except they were death traps. He would bitch, get mad, cuss and tell me never to work for junk. Long story short we had a Harley dealer in a little shop in town and I delivered a paper to his house and after my constant questions he finally stopped by our house and looked at it, We were pretty poor at the time but he tinkered with it and finally got it to run, It smoked a bit but he said it was a pretty good deal so he took it to "ride a little" to check it out and I really didn't care because I couldn't kick it over enough to get it started anyway plus Dad said no riding till I got a license. He(Jimmy Little) brought it to the house finally, he showed me where to turn the timing advance to to kick it and explained the clutch toe/heel operation, shifter and Etc by the time I was 16 I could start and do the whole show except It was a brute to get it up when it would go down but I was getting lots of practice. Anyway that was in 1957 the bike was a 46 or 47 model. It became the first of many. Came home from the service in 62 and bought a 1958 dresser like new for 350.00 from a new dealer rode it to my first bike week in Daytona about 67 or 68. Built my first chopper after that, got an old 57 panhead,now-a-days it would be called a bobber but I bult it into a chopper...First on in this area ... Got married in 70 and had a baby coming so I sold it for 250. but only got 150 then and was supposed to get 25. ever 2 weeks but the bum never paid up and moved away. Anyhow Thats me and I'm 69 now and going on 70 been a great life and riding been a big part of it..
