I have a 1996 Sportster 1200. It was running fine. I started it yesterday and it ran for about a minute, then it shut down like someone had hit the kill switch. After that it will crank but won't fire. I checked the fuel, pulled out the spark plugs to see if it was flooded or they were fouled, nope. Could anyone tell me if this sounds like a bad coil, ecm, cam sensor, stuck valve, or what?
I made an appointment for next week at Dudley Perkins. Is there another shop near SF that is better or less expensive?
Update;
I pulled the spark plugs out again, grounded them, and ran the starter, the plugs don't fire.
It has a full tank of fresh fuel and I set it to run on the petcock. It definitely is an electrical issue.

make sure the petcock is pointing in the right direction
sounds like you ran it out of gas...

make sure your gas is still good
check your connections

Yup, you know the old saying, it's either fire or fuel.

My guess would also be fuel. I haven't been a mechanic since 1974, but electrical problems usually surface with performance running worse and worse. A fuel starvation, (or a rod coming through the jugs), is the thing that stops an engine cold.

Bad fuel or a plugged up filter are possibilities. Also check your warranty card. If your factory protection lapsed on Tuesday, your motor will crap on Wednesday.
