I think the main reason to stay with a carb is cost.
The cost of a jet for and SnS is $5 or so? If you don't know what you are doing then you prolly won't be changing things. If you can afford the dealer or an indi to work on your bike then it makes sense.
I hear talk from guys that have to buy a 'power commander' (expensive) to tune just to put on new pipes.
Also to pay to get a 'real tuner' pro to tweak the map can easily run $500.
For anyone to have a pushrod, aircooled, HD to talk about technology....

Actually, I did mine for performance.

I've reached an age where 300 bucks is about the price I pay to take another couple to dinner. For a bike costing +25K it's a minor amount.

Betty revs, idles, accelerates and downshifts without a burp, a stutter, or a flat spot. In the bad old days I'd be lucky to get a shovel to produce 60 honest BHP. We just did the simple stuff on Betty (more inches, better breathing, cams, lighter valve train, etc.) and I got 100 BHP.

Bikes to me are "the entertainment dollar." Even my little Sportster "Spinner" might be a waste to some folks, a big, fancy self-indulgent scooter. I could have bought a used Sportie and customized it. Heck, I could have even have given the money to charity.

Even my jackknife is extravagant and I wear expensive boots. But I did without for many years. Time for some fun, and I fully admit that an EFI bike is blatant "me time."

I guess I am wrong then - EFI v Carb.

I went from EFI to Carb model because I couldn't make simple changes in exhaust or air intake myself.I helped the performance easily by polishing the intake areas and slide of the carb.I did away with the stock fuel valve and installed a Pingle fuel valve, softer slide spring and re jetted for the exhaust and air filer upgrade.The next mod isn't going to be so cheap and easy since I want the SE 203 cams, hydraulic cam tensioners and adjustable push rods next.
