I have a '09 ultra classic and want to go to chain driven cams, does this require balancing of the crankshaft?

Welcome to the forum! I don't know about that one, update this thread when you find out. That certainly would be interesting to see if it needs to be balanced.

Did you mean gear driven cams, because they come with chain driven cams?

I think that they come from the factory with chain driven cams. The gear driven cams would be aftermarket.

Alright, alright, so I'm dislexic. It's a good thing I'm going with the chain drive cause I wont have to do much. Anyway thanks for your input about gear driven cams :-(

When I recently upgraded my 2001 Ultra and I was researching which way to go, chain or gear I was advised the main concern for the gear drive was excessive and rapid wear on the crank for my year model so I went with the MOCO recommended chain drive upgrade: https://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_ ... cale=en_US
To expect to be perfect is unreasonable, to strive for perfection is reasonable. 2015 Ultra Classic Low.

I went with a 259E chain drive cam made by Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle. The hydraulic chain tensioner set-up on 2009 twin cam is what made me stay with chain drive. My question is: what are the advantages of gear driven cams, and does the crankshaft need to be trued, balanced, and welded, and how do you limit crankshaft endplay?
