I would go by what the manufacturer recommends. :icon_cool_too:

I have used a lower octane on occasion ( when gas station did not have 93 ) and have not noticed a difference on 1 tank of it. H.D. recommends 93 so that is what I normally use. I have no problem with that on 5 gal. of gas. A 10 cent difference in price equals a 50 cent difference on a fill up. I've spent that much to watch 2 flies have sex. :icon_rolleyes:

I tried the lower octane, but she knocked and had even less power, so I stick with the high test.

I'm afraid its only gonna get worse as a concern with the 10% ethanol recquirement and legislation pushing for 15%........

I only run 93 or higher octane in my bike but on my way to sturgis i got stuck at a gas station that only had 83 i had to put it in. The bike ran it but didnt like it. I look at it this was i spent 22500 for my bike what is an extra dollar at the pump.

BI63 brings up a valid point. At my home station they only use corn in the bronze and silver grades. There is no corn in our local premium. We now have those "85 grade" pumps available at this same station.

I don't want to imagine how bad my bike would run on 85, I think i used the 87 and had problems.

Next time you fill up, notice the octane number on the pump.

Many stations now carry 91octane for premium - 87 octane with no alcohol - 89 with 10% alcohol- and also the E85 crap. I haven't seen 93 or 92 octane for a long time around here.
