Hi everyone, A bit about me, Im am a retired Navy Chief (2003) and I live in Virginia Beach Virginia. Im here to read up and gain some smarts on the touring bikes. I've ridden on and off for the last 22 years, mostly off, but I am thinking seriously about a new UC Limited in the next year. The last bike I owned was a 1986 Suzuki GS1100L but that was some years ago. more recent experience has been on a friend of mines 1200 Sportster.
Some of the issues I've been concerned with are overheating, the use of Synthetic oil, and finding a dealer that will deal with ya on MSRP.
I look fwd to reading about these things any other information that maybe helpful to a new old guy like me. Thanks

Welcome to the forums and thanks for your service to our country!

The Ultra's an excellent bike, my bro-in-law has an '09 and he loves it...there are a lot of complaints about heat from the engine on HD's but even here in FL I find it tolerable on my Street Glide. I've read some things that once you get your air intake, exhaust and ECM updated to run richer rather than lean, it helps some with the heat.

The synthetic oil thing(?)..not sure what your concern there is but HD makes full syns for all it's fluids that need to be changed. Also, a good many riders have found some others that they like from a personal preference stand-point.

Dealership's working with you on MSRP? That's gonna be a tough one unless someone here knows something about the dealers local to you...it's all up to them. Here in FL there are some that will and some that won't...

My concern with the Synthetic Was, (since I was told they dont come from the factory with synthetic) would that void the warrenty if it was switched over during the break-in period, and is there any real benifit to using it.

Any info on these bikes is good to have, Id like to learn enough to be dangerous. Thanks again.

Interesting question about the warranty as I can't say 100% for sure...now I CAN say that when you take your bike to a dealer for service they will ask if you WANT to switch to synthetic...

Shouldn't be any warranty issue I wouldn't think...with the couple of "improvements" to my bike I took it in for the complimentary 1000 miler and they didn't say a word. If that's an indicator, you should be fine!
