We didn't do Laconia but we did do Americade. I'm retired now, the wife is semi-retired. We took the RV and our Harley and Victory up to dead center of n.y.s. just north of Utica for the summer. Wanted to get away from the heat/humidity of Va. summers. We put on 3400 miles during the 3 months we were up there. Some great back roads all over that area....& spreading out 100 miles any direction from Utica. Did some longer trips too with friends but most of the miles were put on on our own exploring rinky-dink backroads off the beaten path. Kept us busy most of the summer.
I had quite a year while I had my bike back in new york. Originally from upstate/Albany I know the area well. The roads are some of the most scenic in the country. I have so many great memories from that region of the country. Great riding, nice people, food off the scale cooking. We did a ride one day. 3 of us rode up into the local mountains - cold day in the fall 1995 we were freezing. Came across this out of the way resort/restaurant with a Bavarian theme - the food was hot and delicious and the service was some of the friendliest, made it hard to leave.
I found some similar rides out here, 300 mile days tho. NY/back east the scale is smaller, the same rides are half the mileage.
Here you find yourself crossing a part a desert or a mountain range that is much more technical with higher speeds and less to see.
The desert looks like the desert. We do a trip to "Apple Country" - which is a joke to me coming from Upstate NY and Apple Country.
Anyway- some great riding out here just got to go farther to get to it from where I live. My days with a brand new bike and roads I grew up on were bucket list fillers and some of my best mc memories. I highly suggest to anyone to tour the area if the opportunity arises I agree it is well worth it.
