I hope someone can suggest where I can buy prescription eyeglasses for riding. Already know I gotta have em for the wind. If there are certain styles that are better, I'd appreciate that info too as I don't have any previous knowledge regarding any riding gear including glasses. Is there a national chain store (bricks and mortar) I can get fitted properly at, or a good online supplier I can give my prescription info to?
Thanks in advance for any helpful info.
Hey Terry,
Welcome to the forum.
Before you go and lay out big bucks for special riding glasses... If I can make a suggestion.
For years I used a half helmet when I rode. I used to get "choked" by the neck strap at high speeds, I'd come home with dried blood on my face from bugs and gravel strikes...
I had a good friend suggest I get a full face helmet - so I went to the bike shop and literally could not get my jug head into one... so - I gave up on it and kept using the half helmet - time passed - the not so new now "Modular" helmets came down in price and I was able to find one that fit.
I will never go back to an open face helmet again. I used to think that a full face would ruin the riding experience - not in the slightest bit. As a matter of fact- It makes riding much more enjoyable. I can go on, but the whole purpose of this is to say - I wear my glasses under the helmet - the helmet has a face shield - put the money you'd spend on special glasses towards a proper fitting helmet with shield - there are a ton of different styles out there.
As for other gear - jacket, boots, gloves, etc... you gotta go to a local shop - check your local listings.
I've gone to the Harley store at the dealership (the only national chain store I know of) - pretty good stuff and expensive - good gear last years.
I bought most of my stuff at year end clearance sales. Once you know all your sizes you can shop online - make sure if it doesn't fit you can return it - before you buy it.
Best of Luck with the new bike!!
