I have an '09 Super Glide and I'm considering replacing the shocks. I'm 315 lbs. and the OEM shocks are bottoming out too much even when set on the 5th position. My wife said all I have to do is lose about 100 lbs. :icon_cool_too: , yeah, I think I'll just buy the new shocks. I'm looking at the Progressive 444-4048 number, and I'm looking for opinions from anyone who's using this particular shock.
Thanks for any input on this.

Ribeye,

First I'd like to welcome you to our forum.

I called my friend at Progressive gave him your info and here is what he had to say:

1. Great choice said he just sold a set to a guy that weighed a little less and they worked out fine.
2. He said adjust the preload down.
3. He also told me that when you install them if you need a heavier spring they have one and you can send them in and they will upgrade the spring for free.
This is not advertised or available anywhere else.

This is the kind of help that we give to our members. Hope this helps and look forward to seeing more of your posts. Have your friends join too.

Lenny

Hey Lenny,
Thank you for your welcome note, I'm sure I'll like it here.
Thank you for your effort in getting the info on the 444-4048 shocks for me. Pretty darn cool that Progressive will do that for their customers. When I get them and have put a couple hundred miles on them I'll give a little report on how they feel.
Thanks again Lenny.
Cheers!!

Hey Lenny,
I know it's been awhile, but my wife has had some medical problems and we had to deal with that and then I was able to get the 444s. Got the ones with the heavy springs and they work great for the small bumps but when I hit a pot hole, even a shallow one the shocks don't compress at all and it feels like I'm riding a hardtail. The shocks are adjusted to the softest level. I'm thinking I'd better go to the standard rate spring even though I'm over 300 lbs. (I keep telling my wife our scale is not calibrated, I'm really 178 lbs....)
Do you think Progressive will agree to do this, if so who do I ask for when I call them?
Thanks for you help,
Jim

Sorry for not getting back on this any sooner, when you're dealing with health issues in the family (sometimes I have to remind myself we're in our 60s and sometimes parts and pieces in our bodies tend to malfunction :icon_eek: ). Anyway, called a fella at Progressive, nice conversation, and it was decided that I'd put at least 500 miles on the system to break it in and then see how it feels. Took awhile but I've got a little over 1200 miles on the shocks and the front system works SO much better than stock, but the rears with the heavy springs are still pretty hard on any pot holes deeper than an inch. I will most likely, as time permits, send the shocks to Progressive and have the standard weight springs installed, I'm sure it won't be that expensive. No big deal... if they send the heavier springs back to me I'll probably list them on here if anyone wants them (as in "free, you pay the shipping" kinda deal). I'll keep you posted.
