Lane Splitting for California Cyclists

Finally California has recognized "lane splitting" As of 1/1/2017 it is a law that states it is "legal" to do. They really don't have any parameters so there are no rules to follow. Just proceed in a safe and sane way.

There are also laws now that will make it unlawful to hinder lane splitting.

Lane Splitting Is Legal in California. ... Motorists should not take it upon themselves to discourage motorcyclists from lane splitting. Intentionally blocking or impeding a motorcyclist in a way that could cause harm to the rider is illegal (CVC 22400). Opening a vehicle door to impede a motorcycle is illegal (CVC 22517).

California passed over 800 new laws: most strip liberties, increase prices, and limit small businesses - they were bound to get a couple right... thing is lane splitting was already a practice ok'd by the cops. More than one study showed it to be a very safe alternative to sitting in traffic. So - yeah, big woop CA passed a law that makes sense!! now lets get rid of the idiot drivers that cause the real problems... oh wait - they won't do that - they're the ones that get drivers licenses so they can vote Democrat... :icon_twisted:
HEADLINE "CA gives 800,000+ illegal immigrants drivers licenses" - go figure?

Here's a good one my buddy told me - since the new law - people in cars are now making room for bikers on the freeways - I'd say that is a total win for us :icon_clap:

That's good to hear.
It's be even better if the
make us a real lane between 1st and 2nd lanes
like bike lanes...

Bike lane would be the best. But that will not happen, they barely have room for cars and trucks now. Since they put in the car pool lane on the 405 and the 5 from the OC to LA the lanes are really thin. One can only hope!

We have our own lane... the carpool lane. super easy to get around slower traffic, ride the white line.
