It has just come to my attention that Victory Motorcycles is closing down. It is a sad day to see this happen even tho this is a Harley forum. Among my collection of bikes I also own one and it is a real good bike. As the Polaris suits said in the official release, Indian is the one that they want to focus on so they would drop Victory. They state that the Indian brand is slowly closing in and taking a good bite out of Harley sales.

Even tho you don't own a Victory what are you thoughts about this?

Said Victory wasn't making enough profits. I guess those futuristic designs were just a little too futuristic.
It's sad tho, because the bikes were well made and from the guys I know they were very reliable. I actually was considering the one that was a close/clone to the roadking model. I guess I better get one now or forget about it...
Maybe I'll find one used someday. It is too bad - competition makes for innovation - and now the other companies can relax a little. We've lost a lot of riders to imports and I understand why. I love my bike and the fact I can fix it - main reason I don't want to get anything newer and more complex. BUT- I make some compromises to keep it. I would like a bike with a higher overdrive gear 6 speeds instead of 5. All in all tho - Harley still makes one heck of a motorcycle. RIP Victory - It was nice having you around.

Polaris was going up against 100+ years of an iconic Harley culture. In time if they could have hung in there they could have cemented themselves as the other domestic choice for those who have bias against HD and its established culture. Because there are almost as many Harley haters as Harley lovers. You're not doing that in just 18 years. I think Polaris thinks Indian will do that because Indian already has a pseudo culture base. No it don't. It has a base of start up and fail. About 5 times worth. That's there established culture. I think Polaris thinks Victory customers are going to switch to Indian..no they are not.

Victory was establishing an up and coming loyal customer base. Some of their models are in my opinion pretty sharp looking. Some like the Vision..not so much. Its a shame. I'm a die hard HD guy and I'm use to what I am use to but I can appreciate other bikes. Polaris made a mistake 86'ing Victory. Maybe taking on Indian too was a mistake. Either way they obviously found themselves in a quandary they created and was there really any good decision once they took on Indian?

You nailed it - too bad they let the victory go tho - I was just at the Indian dealer to look around. Bikes are beautiful but throw backs. Technically they don't have the advances the victory had. 2 valves per cylinder verses the 4 valves victory had. As the engine builders know - the more air the more power and more efficiency. I was looking into an update on my roadking - victory made one just like it - looks wise but with the stronger engine. I guess I'll get one used instead... I don't really like the way the indians look - big and heavy - and the heads look hokey - rough finish - looks like it wasn't done right. I guess I like the HD heads much more - nice and shiny - smooth and polished... I wish Polaris well - the more choices there are the better each bike company must make theirs to keep competitive. Keep the hounds at their heels and they will advance the products for us the users.

Victory was a really good company. I just had some recall work done on my bike. They have a great customer service attitude. They took my backrest with luggage rack that was scratched and well used and gave me a brand new one valued at over $550. Thanks victory. Great cruiser. I do like the classic styling of the harley.

I just learned that harley is offering a lifetime drive train warrenty on the some of their new bikes?
