Excellent series on Discovery Channel. Just finished it yesterday. Great representation of the early years. Loved it!

I enjoyed it very much, we have to remember Tho it's advertised as based on a true story so there was probably allot of artistic licence taken and there is no one left to say if everything presented is actually 100% fact. I looked up a few internet sources and they said the show was well done tho Indian is just smiling politely at it. But we all know the the rivalry between HD and Indian was real. Also I couldn't any info on the class action law suite that was portrayed in the show so tho there may have been some smaller law suite the one in the show was probably embellished a bit. But seeing all those vintage Harley's, the racing and what they had to go through to build them was really cool and the internet sources said all that was pretty right on. It's also a matter of history that Walter Davidson was a crazy motorcycle racer and new how to get the common people excited about motorcycles, William Harley was the true genius behind the engineering of the Harley Davidson motorcycles, Arthur Davidson was a true sales corporate genius and William Davidson new how to organize and run a factory, it really was the perfect storm.
Here's a vintage photo. From left: William A. Davidson, Walter Davidson, Sr., Arthur Davidson and William S. Harley.

Just watched it at my buddies house - he DVR'd it.
Very entertaining. Those were the days, no government reg's to deal with. From drawing to prototype to manufacturing as quickly as they could get it done. Really enjoyed the "time capsule" of watching the old bikes and cars too. Lot of drama - but that was probably the way things were back then.
Indian bikes were something and arguably better than the Harleys. I don't know about the show's law suit but historically many preferred the Indians over the HDs. They were more money and the company didn't have the ability to weather the storm as well as the HD company did. I've seen many documentaries on the rivalry and HD won out by outlasting the Indian brand with it's government/law enforcement contracts.
I found the Ford involvement interesting - When Edsel said "I see bankruptcy" he showed his hand. Good on HD for showing him the door. I remember the 3 wheel HDs driven by our local police. As a kid in the early 60's, I got a ride on one once from a cop my pops knew. Things were definitely different back then.
Thanks Basic, for the heads up on this show, I wouldn't have known it was done. :icon_thumbsup:

You can have it cheap.
You can have it fast.
