Changed the fluids in both holes
of the 99 evo sportster today.

It would have been impossible to get that
old oil filter off without the "cap wrench"

Rite Fit Cap Wrench
76 mm x 14 flute
for my ...77a filter (from HD)

Went with 3 qts. Castrol 4T 20/50 mc oil - in the oil bag
and
1 qt. Valvoline 85/140 gear oil in the chain/trans hole

It was starting to get noisy, knocking, so I'm glad I did it when I did,
because that oil was absolutely black!

I also took off the front pegs and cleaned her up a bit.
Sometimes you gotta sacrifice a good riding day for maintenance

Yeah, some truth there!!

I've gotten to look at it in a slightly different way.
A day of maintenance so I don't have to sacrifice a good riding day on the back of a flat bed.
To date - my bike has come home every time except one - I had a melt down in the security system I installed in it 20 years earlier. Not a bad record from a guy that hits things with a hammer for a living.

I say this with respect, From the time you first joined this forum I've watched you grow into and develop - granted just through your posts - but none the less - you have stepped up and taken responsibility for your own bike. I can only tell you from my own experiences that the reason my bike always got me home was I knew it well and took care of it properly. You are on the way to hopefully a similar path. Its always a treat to see this and share in your experiences and I'm sure I'm not the only one here that enjoys your posts.

I have a mention of the oil change technique - It is ALWAYS BETTER to buy the correct tool for the job. Life works better - I know, I'm only going to use this thing a few times a year - but - when I do - I'm in, I'm out, and the sign on the shop says "Gone Ridin".
