Some or all of you will think that I have fallen and bumped my head or that I am just crazy. I sold my Street Glide (Ms. Mertle) to a serviceman at Fort Leonard Wood here in Missouri and I am replacing her with a new Gold Wing. A lot of thought and research went into my decision, but the bottom line is that I am ready for an easier handling, more comfortable, bike to finish out the later stages of my riding career. It has been my pleasure to become acquainted with several of you through this Harley forum. Maybe with the good Lord willing, our paths will cross somewhere out on the road.

No worries. Good for you. You'll really like your wing. It's a great bike. I've went as far as looking at one. Top touring bike for 18-20+ years. Have fun,good luck and stay here anyways and share you enjoyment of your wing.

Keep in touch. I'm curious to hear your input on the new bike. I've ridden with some GWs, BIG bikes. Good thing they come with reverse. I hope you enjoy it, many safe miles!!

Thanks RK! The GW is heavier than a HD touring bike by over 100 lbs. but the low center of gravity makes them easy to handle. I was very impressed after a test ride except for the driver foot pegs. I guess I am used to the forward controls of my Harley so highway pegs are a "must have" accessory. The Honda is definitely way too quiet, but you can't make one sound like a Harley so why spend the money on after-market exhaust. My wife is sold on the comfort factor and for the first time ever, I plan on using a pull-behind trailer on our long trips. The GW cornered very well, has excellent acceleration, and the slow speed electric reverse is a definite plus. The big kicker is that I got in a new GW for several thousand $ less than a new HD touring model. I still plan on wearing my HD gear, even though I will be straddling a quiet, comfortable, geezer glide.

As for the quiet... the better to hear your passenger!!
How about a pic, that way if we ever do cross paths I know what to look for.

My wife said the GW is too damn quiet! Maybe she doesn't like listening to me sing along with the tunes on my phone! I haven't taken possession of the new bike yet, but should be this week.

That is just too funny!! I guess I should have said the better to hear the driver!! If you are one that believes in loud pipes saves lives than most imports are unsafe. I have personal experience in the way of almost getting run over with a quiet bike. I believe that a fair amount of exhaust rumble keeps the day dreamers at bay. In that way, Harleys are a safer ride. So it goes without saying, be safe on your new bike.
