I've been out of riding for a few years due to a promise and now the promise time has expired..........................so, I bought a 2009 Dyna Super Glide today and I'll be picking it up this Friday. I used to wear a novelty helmet but I've been told the Police and State Troopers have really cracked down on novelty type helmets in the past couple of years. I ordered one of the Carbon Fiber DOT approved helmets from https://www.carbonfiberbikerhelmets.com/dothelmets.html and I'm wondering about getting pulled over for a non compliant helmet stop by an un-informed Officer. Has this happened to anyone on this Forum? Do they seem to relax when shown the helmet is in fact DOT approved?

I've heard alot of talk about them checking for DOT helmets at the local rallies but I haven't seen any proof that they have been doing so yet.I have been baffle checked and checked for a valid Motorcycle license at a road block this summer. :icon_smoking:

I HAVE HEARD THAT IN NEW YORK THE LAW STATES THAT YOU MUST WEAR A HELMET. DOESN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT BEING "DOT". i UNDERSTAND THAT THE COPS CAN GIVE YOU A TICKET BUT IT IS EASY TO FIGHT IN COURT.
NOTE: I HAVE NOT SUBSTANTIATED ANY OF THIS BUT I WEAR A "NOVELTY HELMET" AT LEAST WHEN IT IS HOT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN STOPPED FOR IT.

HAVE A GOOD ONE!!

The new helmets came in yesterday, while they are lower profile than most, it would be hard to mistake one for a novelty helmet.
