I reflected on this conversation last night. We have picked at one another on the topic in good humor. For the most part I joke and talk shit on these forums. All you guys are good people no matter what neighborhood you live in. I was going to go for a walk yesterday evening and my youngest wanted to play xbox for a few more minutes... so we did. I went out to go on my walk and their were cops everywhere. A crazy man had killed 6 of the 7 family members of one of my neighbors. They live three houses down from us. We live in a good neighborhood. The cops keep the place in order.

Keep yourself protected and don't be lured into a false sense of security because of how a place makes you feel safe.

Tragic indeed. goes to show there are batshit crazy people everywhere. That's why I go where I want when I want.
I wave say hello and treat people with respect. If It's my time it's my time, nothing will stop that.

Always sad to hear news like that.
Condolences to the family and friends of those lost.

As for the safety factor - I believe you're more likely to have a distracted driver harm you than suffer a fate like that.

It's the illusion of safety that a good area can create, not so much that an event like this would very often repeat. I personally think everyone should carry a cancealed handgun if they are sane enough.

:icon_arrow: Hey BI I have a question about the Antenna that XM Radio Uses?
What did you wind up using? and what was the trick mounting it?
Did you have to pay for a subscription?

The kit comes with the usual motorcycle use 1"x 1" black square deal. Double sided tape and mounted on the shelf formed over the left speaker on the inner fairing. Directions and parts that come with the kit directs you to mount it inside the fairing. I didn't see that working. Yes a prescription. I only get it from April the November 1st. Don't need it November-December-January-February-March.

For the sake of conversation I disagree with the posters who say they can go anywhere they please and feel okay about it. You're asking to get your ass handed to you in short order and dangling yourselfs foolishly in harms way to prove some minimal point where the juice isn't worth the squeeze. And where a good dose of common sense should prevail.

Case in point..my son and DIL live and work in Springfield,Mass, actually West Springfield, Mass. Every pharmacy in the city has been robbed, hers just the other nite at 3am and its across from the police dept, lol. They are thinking of moving back up here because that doesn't happen here, it just doesn't. We do not have that intense criminal element like in all cities do throughout the USA. Can it happen..sure. A bank had been robbed several years ago. And then there was the Zantop murders:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartmouth_Murders

It happened in Hanover, town of Dartmouth College and the DHMC huge medical facility. 2 high school deluded kids with mental problems. They had tried a couple other resident prior to the Zantops and were met with hill builly/woodchuck guarded(guns) congenality and kept moving. The Zantops were less guarded, infact had been foolishly freindly. Talk about false sense of secirity. That crime rocked the community. But its not chronic. You can walk around Hanover/Lebanon all nite every where and the only harassment and harm you'll get is from the PD.

In places like Providence,RI you cannot as a white person even walk through Chad Brown w/out being acousted and the Providence Police academy is right next door, that is just one of many voilatile areas in Providence. And every big city has those area's where white people are just not welcome and the cops just do not have it under control.

So yeah Kickstart one should never have a illusion of safety and should have some meaure of protection. I had 2 pit bulls in the house, assorted handguns and shot guns in easy reach but hidden and I live in the boondocks. For me its murphies law..you have it you won't need it.. And no stranger is warmly welcomed into my house for nothing. Everyone is an asshole till proven otherwise,eh. But....given the choice of back dirt road Vermont or any big city, its a simple choice for me and I think for obvious reasons.

I agree with all that you have said. I just didn't get into the argument. Remember my warnings to you when you took your trip to the west coast a few years back? I don't think you cared for my warnings either. All you can do with the folks that refuse to listen is pray things go well for them. They haven't had the same experiences and their perspective is based on thier own perception. I am very protective of my wife and kids and would never put them in harms warm by venturing into the badlands. Life is unpredictable enough as it is. As old as these old farts are on here, you are not going to convince them to use better judgement. As you well know we are wanting to get out of Houston now. I am sick of 5.6 million population that lives in this area.

Walk softly, carry a means of protection, and always be aware of your surroundings.
