Off to a bike night tonight, there will probably be 6\700 sports bikes there and maybe 30 Harleys,I got to wondering why so few Harley riders,my excuse is I was born an individual I don't want to go out a copy. I imagine that in the US the ratio would be the other way round.!

Out here in California, Ive seen a freeway close with sport bikes, literally thousands. Out on the roads I see 2 sport bikes to each Harley. At the local watering hole it's hundreds of harleys and a few sport bikes. At bike nights - usually it's one crowd or the other so you go to sport bike night or a harley bike night.

I'm starting to see more guys going to the victory bikes and we now have new Indian bikes showing up at the harley hang outs. Some import cruisers mix in.

It was pretty much the same when I was in New York, depending on the night and the location you could see old cars, hot rods, harleys or sport bikes. Summer is/was the best.

I can't imagine riding a different bike - love my Harley. Gotta admit the competition has some nice products these days but still the Harleys are the best - IMHO.

Where I live I see more Harley's on the road then anything else.

Thats cool - here, on certain days on certain roads all you'll see are harleys going and coming but out on the roads that connect different areas you'll see a bike show on any given weekend day. Pretty much anything under the sun, not to mention the cars that buzz around out here - classics to concepts.

Back in 2010 riding cross country the top touring bike I saw was HD Electraglide followed by a distanct 2nd Honda Gold Wings.

I've sat on the gold wing - gotta say it's a handful, no wonder they need reverse.

I'm a simple is better guy. If it wasn't for you guys with the stereo's on your bikes telling me how good it is to listen to music as you ride, I would have never tried it. Now look what you've done to me - I can even answer the phone...

I love the way my bike rides - super comfy and plenty fast and agile for my style of riding. Touring mode is when I have the windshield on. To be very honest, with my bad back, for multiple day trips I need a vehicle that the seat reclines and I can nap in. that way I only need a room ever other day and can get cross country in 3 days, CA to NY 2800 miles. I've done big rides with my bike the longest day was roughly 850 miles but it beat me up. The same distance in a car would have been much easier and I could have brought some larger items. I think I might turn into one of those guys that trailers my bike with me so I can ride it once I get where I'm going.

I sat on a GW once at a dealership but they wouldn't let me ride it. I said nobodies dropping 25,000$ on a bike w/out a test ride. And you're not gonna sell many bikes like that. They were out of business w/in the year..Lebanon Motor Toys.

You have a nice bike RK. And if you ever upgraded to a EG or RG your only regret would be you wished you would of gotten one sooner. Never realized the little creature comforts add up and make a difference on long days,mulitple days of weeks riding.

Trailering...hey you do what you got to do. Thats actually not a bad idea. When I am far away from home on my bike that little thought of having limited options on a break down to get back home is always in my mind. I bring enough money so in a emergency I could rent a truck/trailer worse case scenario. Also to on a couple occasions when I have gotten to a mutually agreed destination I just want to park my bike until its time to leave. The guys who trailered of course are chomping at the bits to put some miles on. Not me I already rode miles to get to said destination. So when its time to head home I am revigorated and looking forward to the ride.

I bet it would make a world of difference if you got a backrest. I use a dufflebag sometimes, but I think a well fitted backrest would be much better. I know it makes a long trip much easier for me. That and having the ability to change my feet position.
