Hot damn skippy. I finally got around to getting the road tech internal XM radio and Garmon 660 GPS installed on my Ultra. I been wanting that since I got the bike but kept putting it off for one reason or another. Hell yeah its expensive so what. Its worth it. I mean the Garmin 660 has got all the bells and whistles as well the accesories are on point. There is a camera attachment and I cannot for the life of me figure that useage?

Removeable, the GPS comes with a nice cover cap to cover the spot where the GPS goes when removed and a sturdy and nice carrying case for the GPS. The GPS kit comes with everything needed to use in your car/truck. Battery charger. And some other stuff I don't know but probably won't need to use. I also got the fairing mount. I had purchased the 3 bag windshield bag with one bag removeable way back when I got the bike knowing that hopefully at some point I would purchase the GPS.

I had read concernable opinions about the positioning of the GPS in the fairing cradle being questionable because its not adjustable but its pointing perfectly and easily readable from the drivers position. The mounting is rock solid secure with no vibrations. I also purchased the integratable wiring harness so everything works with the handle bar controls. Haven't been able to dial in the XM radio yet because its been super over cast hard these last couple days.

One thing I did different from the instructions was have them mount the antenae on the shelf formed by the inner fairing over the left speaker. I have learned from experinece it don't work inside the fairing especially my fairing has a fairing bra on it.

I'll know more by the end of the summer if it was a good investment or not. I carry and use maps but with a destination(address and zip) in mind I have found the GPS invaluable to get right to the door step.

Used my GPS and the new dual vision sunglasses I purchased back in May. I am very happy with the results. Music cut off when the GPS spoke. It was loud and clear enough. I could easily see the GPS with the magnified panels in the sun glasses. And when done using it I popped it off, placed in a nice protective case...both glass's and GPS and clipped the dust cover over where the unit goes.

Wicked pricey but this was most likely my last motorcycle purchase

Dual Vision Sunglasses... Is that a fancy way of saying Bi-Focals? That I understand.

I was wondering if all that comes over the sound system and competes with the wind and engine to be heard. I read where you say it's loud enough - so that means if I'm riding next to you I can hear it too?

I read in the Intercom review - where the sound system is installed in the helmet, I'm thinking that when I go that route I'll do the blue tooth into a helmet for the sound.
I'm wearing a modular these days - no more blood trails on my face from errant flying particles... and yeah there are chunks missing from the helmet and some good dings in the face visor.

I am diggin the GPS feature more and more these days I liked it so much I installed one on my bike -

It's a model I came up with on my own - 2 D - with replaceable memory cards- once written the cards are permanent unless they get wet... new cards are cheap and easy to obtain but they take a while to write too.

The attachment apparatus for the handle bar mounting is easy and straightforward to install. The "Clip-Board" and Clips are replaceable in case they wear out. All the parts, memory cards and mounting hardware were pretty pricey too - UNDER 10 BUCKS :icon_laughing:

You know dam well I'm just busting your butt - But this is really the way I do it - and been doing it for 20+ years. I used to clip the directions to my windshield bag - but since I got the new helmet and mesh jacket I haven't used the windshield for a year now. So I had to come up with a new mount - I used a modified bicycle water bottle cage mount that I screwed the plastic stock to and then added the clips - and 3 were needed to keep the instructions from blowing away on the freeways...

Finished your post...

As luck would have it I just happen to have the spare money. Back 12-13 years ago when I didn't and I was still riding my 1983 FLHS and 1996 Buell S2T, bone stock except for the S&S carb and had ludy luck and the Lord's blessing been bestowed on my 12-13 years ago I'd still be riding my 1983 FLHS.

I'm not crazy about the $$$ it cost to purchase and have installed. Very happy with everything about both XM radio and GPS.

And your just jealous :icon_cheesygrin: Don't hate the player..hate the game, lol

:icon_winking: I'm glad you got it!! Now you have ONE LESS EXCUSE For putting off that long ride you been threatening to take :icon_thumbsup:

When, not if, you make it out this way... if I still ride... You won't need the darn thing other than to listen to the radio cause I'll happily be your tour guide.

Having that or not having that was never the excuse. I believe I would have had no problem getting to Alaska w/out it. No trip is worth not seing my oldest grandson for a year..at least not until he gets a little older...he's already starting to show the signs that being around grammy and grampy is not a big a deal as it use to be. He lives 800 miles away, he doesn't have a father and the shitbag my daughter is with is inconsequential to him. I still would have went if my daughter would have allowed us to have him for 4 weeks instead of a lousy 2. On top of the 2 episodes of 2 weeks I spend with him a year, I also zoom down to NC on my some of my 4 days off to hang out with him for a day or 2 then zoom the 800 miles back. I ride straight down 800 miles, spend 2 days with him then zoom 800 miles straight back I put 20,000+ miles a year on my truck. This year, in April when I was there he for the first time ever wanted to go home a day early to be with his freinds and was almost in tears when it looked like he couldn't. I brought him back so he would be happy.

I guess I'm a selfish bastard - this life is mine - ungrateful, entitlement generation whatever they're up to now, can take a back seat to my fulfilling my life's needs and dreams... just sayin... He didn't put the same value of time spent with you as you had hoped? I guess he's a lot luckier than I or my kid sister was - we never got to spend time with our Grand parents.

I don't have kids. I don't have grand kids. so I don't know what it's like. I'm sure you followed your heart and did the thing that sat best with you. I see my niece once or so a year - I say " Wow - you're all grown up" and then she's off texting and I'm talking with sis.

No one has a promise of tomorrow. AK is a journey not a trip.

As for the GPS - just another toy then, from the sound of it. I like the music and sat radio tho. I tried a helmet with the sound system in it and I"m hooked. The blue tooth - access all the apps on the phone - music - maps - gps - answer & make calls in the relative quiet of the helmet (kind of like a phone booth) and it has intercom to talk to other riders - passengers. BEST of all - NO DISPLAY!! I don't need any distractions. IF you do A Lilly on a motor cycle you wont walk away!! I know my limitations :icon_bang:

A Lilly = looking down, tuning the radio on a brand new car and driving it off the road into a ditch.

A GPS is valuable tool. Its easy to slip notes on a clip board on a day trip. Try that on a week long or 3-4 week trip. :icon_swoon: I map will get you to a basic location but a GPS will get you to the door step. And w/ a GPS you don't have to stop to read it. Or once you get to a town or a city and you want to get to a particular restaurant, museum or particular point of interest once you plug in the address it'll walk you right to the location.

And yes as a single never married and no kids life is a lot less complicated. My father had 6 kids and a gaggle of grand kids but he ignored everyone and did him. He has a s large family but a he had a small funeral. He is not missed. A reflection of the legacy he left... a selfish one. My 12 yo grand sons recent "need" or preference to be with his friends is a natural evolution of life. Grand kids evolve. Parents and grand parents are their initial go to exposure to the world. Once the kids start developing friends and friendships they move on to the next level of their life,I understand that. And had he lived closer instead of 800 miles away and had a caring father everything would be different for me. The onus for a situation gone wrong falls on my psycho daughter. Everyone else can see where her choices will eventually take her but her. Worse she has thrown everyone under the bus for the current married shitbag she is with. She is going for all or nothing and I am afraid she will end up with nothing. I won't be there for her next time. She will get to lie in the bed she made.

So I get to do me in small doses. If I don't run ouit of time I still hope to take that well planned ride to Alaska. If I don't and given my choices I would rather regret not going then regretting I didn't do right by my grandson...whether or not he appreciates or under stands. I made same sacrifices for all my kids and which ultimately didn't work out. That sucks but none of them can point a finger of neglect at me or my wife. They own, have sole custody and are the authors of there struggling lives.
