I am a simple guy and use Simple Green on the engine. Spray it all over the greasy part underneath let it stay on for a few minutes and then hose it off. Yes I said hose it off. I use a low pressure hose on my bike wash it with Blue Corral car wash then polish with Meguires Classic polish. at least I think that is what I use. Can't find my can of polish anywhere. Think that RK has it or let someone else use it. Anyway easy, takes me 1.5 hours to do this but bike looks like brand new when its done. Simple Green works great and fairly cheap. Dry it off with my air compressor.

When I stopped for an oil change in NashvilleHD one time and they let me hang aorund in the back I seen them using Bike Spirits I was impressed. Should get some but I keep forgetting. I think it'd be a great detailer.

What bike spirits don't do is get out the grease and road grime in all the nooks and crannies. I came home from a 240 mile all day ride the other day (Lake George/Americade)and came in and out of the rain during the ride. The Northeast is weird.. When I got home I was beat, sun burnt and tired. So I took a little short nap while the bike cooled. Got up about 7pm got the hose lined up and turned on, squirted the bike down with s100,hosed it off as instructed and viola it was done. No scrubbing and dirt and grime gone. Bike ready to be waxed on another time. Biker spirits doesn't do that.

I hope to get a can of biker spirits to keep on the bike as it looks like it'll keep the tank,fenders and saddlebags standing tall while on a multy day trip. Every hotel I've stayed at happily always lets me have as many "rags" as I need.

Once I get it detailed a good quality spray and wipe works great.

After I wind up going on a dirt road or after just so many miles the back wheel and underside have enough grit that the hose is the only option. I've been too cheap to try the S100, I do the car wash and sometimes I use dish detergent for the painted surfaces and the simple green on the engine, and wheels. I put the hose on a light pressure spray and go after it. So far 20 years and bike looks ok for a daily driver. I found that the better waxes and a hand rubbed finish are the important steps in making the bike look good. As long as you have all the gritty stuff off - the wax will clean almost anything off the paint.

I wax the windshield after I wash it. It takes out all the scratches and makes it easier to clean off in between washes.

Never thought about waxing the windshield...good water repellent too I imagine?

When I bought the 2001 back in 2008 the guy also gave me mad amount of his cleaning and maitenance stuff. So I ended up with probably 5 gallons of S100, 2 squirt bottles and still have plenty left. I just love that stuff. Wish you could find spray on wax,lol.

I forgot to add I also use the wax on my clear visor on my helmet. The bugs and road slug pretty much rinse off. I coat the visor with a fresh layer of wax when the bugs start sticking to it again. Usually about 4 or 5 good washings.

Pop the visor off the helmet.
Rinse it in the sink.
A dab of dish washing liquid on your finger and only your finger never use your nail.
Let the stubborn ones soak an extra minute or 2.
Once you have it clean and dry - I use a paper napkin to squeegee off the water - always wipe only in one direction.
A good coat of wax both sides. Let dry. wipe with clean cotton or micofiber cloth.
The wax on the inside seems to keep the visor from fogging.
