 Post subject: lost oil pressure

I guys, Hope that I get some help on this, I was riding my bike the other nite and I lost all my oil pressure so I shut it down, I have a S&S 107ci w/less than 2000mi. my oiltank is completely full , I started it up tonite for maybe 10sec. sounded fine but dry up top. I have some buildup of metel on my magnitic oil pan bolt. could my oil pump have broke!

Hi bad,
First I 'd like to welcome you to the forum, this is a great place. If you are going to fix the bike yourself I would without hesitation get the shop manual and the parts book for your bike. You say you have a s&s motor call them on the phone and get the books and ask them about the situation they may be able to help. I think that the oil pump runs off of the cams it could be possible that something broke. Check to see if there is a warranty left on the engine with only 2000 miles? One other thing could the oil light be malfunctioning, just a thought. Hope this helps.

So you say you lost oil pressure? Then you say when you started it, it sounded fine but dry up top? When you lost oil pressure did the lifters make all kinds of noise? Or did the oil pressure light just come on. Or do you have an oil pressure guage? If there was no top end noise like the push rods were trying to leave you might be ok. Some metel on the drain plug is normal. You can try this little trick I have used before if you feel mechanical. 1st, remove spark plug wires from spark plugs. 2nd, check engine oil level. 3rd, place drain pan under oil filter area. 4th, remove the oil filter. 5th, crank the engine over using the starter motor. 6th, check for oil coming from the oil filter housing. Oil should come out at a steady pace not to fast but steady. If it does then investigate the oil pressure light bulb or wiring. One disclaimer is that this trick will not work on twin cams...... shaggy001
