Changed the oil the other day. The manual says 4 quarts. Only took 3 1/2 qts with filter. Is this cause there is some oil captured in the oil cooler that doesn't drain out? I DID run for awhile to get it to go through the new filter.

Did you replace the filter too? If you didn't change the filter I would dump in 3 qts then proceed slowly from there as you have. At 3.5 qts sounds like you're spot on without having replaced the filter.

I DID put on a new filter.....as stated above.

Did you check the oil with the bike on the side stand or straight up? The correct way to check the engine oil is with the bike on the side stand. The transmission oil you check with the bike straight ip and the dipstick not screwed in just on top of the threads.

I've had that happen, once or twice when the bike only took 3.5qts - I THINK - that I didn't get it all out. Now I drain it out for an hour with the dipstick out. Seems to drain better with the dip stick out. I also try to jack it up so the drain plug is at the low point.

I'm going to speculate that the extra oil was trapped somewhere - the cooler - probably the place. Either way as long as you have fresh oil and filter and the level is up- ride the wheels off it.

Thanks y'all. I didn't warm the bike up before draining & it sounds like a combination of that & what might have gotten captured by oil cooler is the reason. I DID notice also how much faster the oil drained out once removing the fill plug. Being it's reading good on the sidestand I'm not gonna worry about it & just ride the heck out of it like one of ya said.
