I wasn't going to post this story but after telling some of my more hardcore(if I may say)biker friends and they didn't laugh or make fun of me I figured what the hay!!

Few weekends ago I rode about 375 miles to my home town, where my parents and brother live and a few old friends are still living there.

About fifty miles away from home town I get off interstate hwy and jump onto small two lane blacktop. I ride about ten miles on old two lane and stop in this little town and get some fuel and a drink.

Older guy yells at me from across the road about the day he used to ride and wants to show me his bike, I walk over there and he has this old honda and its been sitting in the same spot so long that there is rust spots on the concrete from the bike sitting there!

I go back to the gas station and start putting gas in the ole scoot and some young kid maybe 18-19 years old is saying hello to everyone and everyone ignores him? He says hello to me and I say hi, he then says nice weather for a ride and I said sure is hope it stays that way, I go in and the cashier says the kid paid for ten dollars of my fuel..he left before I was done pumping gas and the lady said she had never seen him before and he said he was paying it forward??

I hit the road and as I get closer to home town I realize its been four or five years since I've been there and still thinking about the old man with the rusted honda and the kid paying for ten bucks of fuel..I hate to admit it but I got all emotional and it was a good thing and being on a bike had a lot to do with it and riding Solo made the ride kinda surreal.

I arrived in home town around 5 or 6 pm and just rode around checking out things from a time long ago..then I started feeling all nostalgic!!

Purdy :icon_mrgreen: funny huh??? just wondering if riding ever makes anyone think to much!!! :icon_eek: LOL

Thanks for sharing your story. I really enjoyed reading it. Glad to see that you enjoyed reminiscing and got to revisit your home town. This kind of stuff is good for the heart. Just goes to show ya that being kind and friendly goes way farther then being a a-hole. If you read through some of the threads there are some other members that have shared this kind of story. Again thanks for the share you made my day today! :icon_thumbsup:

Hey now Terry, I wasn't meaning to poke fun at you as much as your story(which was a good story) reminded me of that movie clip.

Almost any movie you can think of they have a monkey-ed movie of it. My favoites are Titanic, the God father, Top Gun to name a few.

But good story!!!

All good!! Half the reason I ride is for therapy and half just joy of riding.... I love it, like it, and live it! :icon_razz:

I do, I have a blast riding around. part of that is thinking and experiencing the parts of the country I'm riding in..The farms, the factories, and talking to the people! :icon_mrgreen: I enjoy traveling in my car or truck ..but the bike takes it to another level..guess its hard for me to put into words :icon_eek:

Compared to riding in a car or truck..they are like watching things go by on T.V and a bikes like being in it.. :icon_thumbsup:

I get emotional every time I fire that lovely old Harley motor up and set off solo at dawn to return to London and visit my old family home.my folks are gone now but just to be able to return for a day and live on my memories of happy years past means so much, and to be able to make the trip on my beloved Harley makes the whole experience perfect. is that sad?

Not at all, I was lucky enough to have my motorcycle in my old home town for a while and now looking back on it - those are some of my most treasured memories. Memories are how those that went before us live on, enjoy them while you can.
