Hi All,

Where is everyone that's going someplace in 2014 going?

This year I am planning to go to Sturgis with some friends. They go up through Canada and then drop down. It should be a great ride will give more information as plans firm up.

What are your road trip plans for 2014?

Our group destination for this summer is Niagara Falls. From Missouri, we will probably go through Indianapolis; cross into Ontario at Detroit; and arrive at Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. For our return route, we plan on meandering our way home through western NY, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.

Does anyone have any suggestions for must-see places or scenic routes? Thanks.

I'm formerly from NY - the whole state has beautiful roads and many beautiful places to ride through.
I'm from eastern NY - the Hudson Valley from north of NYC to the Canadian border is just beautiful - The "Northway" I-87 had signs on it - stating it was voted the most scenic roadway in the country for years. There are countless lakes and places to just sit and enjoy a relaxing break. I miss those places - but - they are buried in snow for months - and regular rain storms during the rest of the year. I was a local and used to ride the river road often.

The mountains and country side in the eastern part of the state are rolling and panoramic. Also if you go that far east you should check out the Champlain and Vermont regions - all the way through into New Hampshire. Hope you have a great trip and be safe.

The only plan I have so far is to ride somewhere at sometime with my nephew.
He's in the navy and hasn't had any time off in a while, so when he get's some leave I'm dropping everything and heading out.
We'll be departing from Kansas or Illinois and haven't decided on a direction yet.

FYI...With all my efforting (I left no stone unturned, I thought. Route is selected, what I consider necesary equipment purchased and bike dialed in for what I need, vacation time accrued and $$ saved and just massive research done on everything the last couple years, I mean I'm chomping at the bits and raring to go) for my big ride this year from June 15-July twentysomething, I left out, in fact totally over looked something very important until I was in Disney world this past November.

In a nut shell and cutting to the chase if I ride to Alaska I will not see my oldest grandson who lives in NC for a year. Can't do that. It didn't dawn on me until we were all rocking disney world.

Because of things out of my control my grandson is in a bad place for about 2 years now and he lives for our 4-5 weeks over the year together. I can't even consider taking him with me because my daugher will only let me have him in 2 week increments. We are usually down there 1 1/2 weeks in the spring and 1 1/2 weeks in the fall and last summer he was up for a couple weeks by accident and her convenience(and then its okay). If it was his choice he'd live with us and hates that he has to go home when its time. She has tried to play the Grandson card once but I threatened to take her and her drug dealing and still married older BF to court.

I apologize for those with whom I had made extended plans with in conjunction with this proposed ride. I've been trouble shooting various possibilities to be able to continue on with proposed ride, I mean I really really have been wanting to go for a couple years now but I'm just not doing it and doing it knowing I'm letting my grandson down. I can't say he loves me as much as I love him or he can understand or appreciate all the sacrafices we make for him, I know its what we need to continue to do.

I'm hoping maybe when I retire at 62,4 years from now, if I'm not in bad health or even dead by then or if something with my grandsons circumstances change for the best before then. Oh yeah it pisses me off that my childrens selfish behavior still hold me hostage. Not my grandsons fault his mother is psycho. And I'm not throwing away everything I've worked for or going to jail to dole out what I know is needed to fix this.

Hey BI -
I understand, but there is always a compromise... maybe do a shorter ride and still have time to spend with the kid.

Life is short my brother, as you stated - you're healthy enough to do something now - get 'er done.
As I understand you have 6 weeks off - take 3 and do a ride, and 3 to have with the kid - you deserve it!!
