Hi,

New member today. Got a 2010 Electra Glide Classic. Picked up in May. Too bad I had to wait 51 years until I could afford a Harley. Had an old Wing. Now i can say I'm living the dream! The only problem is it's cold here in Chicago.......Want to ride, ride, ride.

Congrats and really happy for you...better late than never.

Sooooo while its winter and your waiting for the sun and blue skies to return a decent way to pass the time in the winter is planning your rides for next year. I don't mean rides around the block. I mean those 2-3 day even week long rides. I mean thats what the bike you own now is made for.

Planning things like routes(intertstate or back roads),miles per day, hotels/camp grounds,places you'd like to see, what to take being careful not to over pack(learning as you go experience), well loved and known restaurants to stop in enroute to where ever.

Welcome to the forum!!
I used to live in upstate NY - I know winters - I used to ride my bike as much as possible, any time the roads were clear enough. Keep the faith - summers coming.

Welcome, I don't ride a Harley but i ride with quite a few guys that do so they let me hang out here.. Used to live out of St.Louis,MO so i remember winters i always rode as long as there was no ice on the roads. Finally after all these years i put some heated grips on.

Ever since you had to wait a long time and get on a list to buy a Harley is when I wanted one! I had the old Wing same age as my daughter 1981. She was pretty dependable for 21 years. I enjoyed it but something was missing. The American made machine for one. The loudness and vibration second. I hope I don't have to hold on to this one for twenty years. After seeing the new one's, and what Harley is doing now I want one sooner. Already planning the next ride "Toys for Tots" December 1st.......burrrrrr!!!!!!

Back in 1994 I first saw a roadking in the dealership - I said "I want to buy that bike!" he said get in line that ones sold and there is a 2 year waiting list for that bike... That was in April of 1994 by Sept I had one - I had to go to Massachusetts to get it - I was in NY. I still have that same bike and most likely will for a long time to come. It is one of the easiest bikes I have ever ridden. Once you find one you really like - people usually stick with that one for a while.
I used to use insulated gauntlet gloves in the cold weather - keeps the wind out of the sleeve. I don't need to worry about that much any more - I'm in CA now, it doesn't get very cold.

There's always a bunch of new bikes available at the dealerships around here. It makes it nice to dream - these days you can actually go into the dealer see a bike you like and buy it.
