I had hoped I was well past making any stupid, rookie mistakes, but no.....I am more than capable of forgetting to think with my limited brain cells. After returning home from our wet trip to the Grand Canyon, I undressed my Street Glide (affectionately known as Mertle) for a good cleaning. Upon putting the saddlebags back on, one side was a little stubborn, but the pins went in and locked down. On Friday evening, my wife and I took off on a dinner ride and after making a turn and accelerating, my right saddle bag fell off and went sliding down the asphalt to wind up in the ditch. If only I would have checked to make sure the saddle bags were secure. A costly lesson for me, but hopefully someone can benefit from my stupid mistake. :icon_bang:

I've got to be honest not many people would share that! It take a big man to post that, thanks for the heads up. :icon_thumbsup: Hope you get it fixed.

Dang thats a bummer sorry to hear about that.

I was worrying about just that problem the other day as I had removed my left saddlebag and wasn't quite sure I had it in all the way, so far so good.

Unlike the Streetglide the 2012 Ultra (2014 does not)at least has that cradle of the side and bottom rails which I hope would be a difference maker. I hope to never find out.

To expect to be perfect is unreasonable, to strive for perfection is reasonable.

Thanks for sharing. Don't sweat it too much... we all make mistakes.

Sh!t Happens!! - I even have a shirt that says it - I used to wear it anytime something like that happened to me... I wore that sucker out years ago.
Most important thing is - you learned a lesson, double check you gear.
Mertle will forgive you - now its just a matter of how much it costs to get it fixed.
It's called being Human - we all make mistakes!!

You can have it cheap.
You can have it fast.
You can have high quality.

Picked up Mertle's saddle bag from the paint shop and my little mistake cost me $200. At least now my dear Mertle will be back to normal. Lesson learned!!!
